does any one do courses to get started in carpet cleaning??

I've done the cleansmart course it's basic with no b/s, I can recommend it as a good starting point. Most of what I've learnt though came from knowing people from this forum and actually going out with a c/c,  watching how they work and helping them hands on is much better than any course imho

alltec in cambridge do some exellent courses, i've done 2 different carpet cleaning courses, upholstery, 2 spot & stain removal plus i took me iicrc examine there, paul pearce does most of the training there, plus they do rug cleaning, carpet repair etc!  www.altec.co.uk     freshi

Manufacturer's courses are fine for learning the basics. At the end of the day manufacturer's WANT your business to succeed, so that you buy more of their products.

I went on the Cleansmart course in Nottingham. Derek Bolton runs the courses and he seems to know a little bit about carpets. I can recommend this course as a good place to start, not too far from Manchester also.
