Title: Do you fear the internet?
Post by: ianharper on September 02, 2007, 06:58:29 am
Guys

I get the impression that some might fear the learning curve of marketing on the Internet?

It is a very complex set of networks and computer codes, but you don't have to get in deep to benefit.

many hand over their designs to a so call expert. many of these so called experts can build you a great looking site but, know nothing about marketing, and results.

using the Internet to market is a very powerful tool. but you must understand how to use it. it is this that you only need to gain knowledge about. not the nuts and bolts of the network and code.

as you surf ask yourself questions on how others marketing works. for example how your local town name can be put in a page and how does it know where you live?

once you have answers you can then go to these so call experts and tell they what you want. as they will only give you what the think you need. and in most cases that's basic stuff.

how much can this type of way of doing things cost, well with the Internet being "the world wide web" it can be very cheap. for example India and eastern Europe have lots of people that know loads about this stuff and will do it very cheaply.

I myself are only scratching the surface at the moment, but can see that there is great depth of potential that can be exploited to my benefit.

its in all of us to ask questions, its what take us forwards to new ground.

You are correct about the potential of the internet for marketing / selling and if I had adequate knowledge I would be using the internet to earn a living.
Almost anything can be sold through the internet and I would love to be doing just that ! But it's lack of "know how" certainly not fear that prevents me.

clean n dry

first like the name.

I no expert but i asked myself a question about a site that was getting many more hits and more importantly prospects. i kept digging until i got the answer. it was not some programmer answer. its was there for all to see if you just looked.

its no different to asking why say another carpet cleaner in your area is getting more work than you. it really is common sense.

looking for answers outside our service helps

Its not for everyone thats for sure. I embrace it wholeheartedly as I understand the potential.

The way I look at it is that as older people shall we say, tail off, the usage of the internet rises as younger people get older (who use the net) and more younger people grow up with it and get older etc etc. Eventually I think the books will have a limited presence.

For instance almost 50% of my turnover for july was directly from the internet - under search conditions. This is why I am now in the process of building another 10 sites.

There are many misconceptions about the internet..many think it's simply a matter of opening a store and you'll get millions of customers.

It isn't like this!

Having a website is like having a bricks 'n' mortar shop located in a dingy back street off the main shopping thoroughfare.

Sure, a few people will stumble across your shop but 99.9% of people won't know that your shop is there. They will continue shopping in the high street despite your possibly better service and lower prices.

The trick is in getting people to visit your site by advertising it, getting it listed on search engines etc..etc

Well if they look anything like your existing sites I wouldn't bother.

Websites are basically free these days, there are a billion free templates that are adequate to use for a carpet cleaning internet presence. You then have to make sure that people find your site which is a little more difficult but not that hard. Google SEO to find a few basics.

Jaybee

And you have a website do you? Cant really see the point of the insult.

Ian

You know, we have met! My main marketing site is very full of keywords and has been optimised for SEO, which is why almost 50% of my business last month was due to the site - under search conditions (not via a directory etc). Know what you mean though.

p.s. Jaybee - it may be your opinion what my sites look like which is fair enough, but I guess I know what I'm doing if its bringing in GREAT figures....doesnt take a lot of working out LOL!
