Title: Does Your Vehicle Sign-writing Get You Much Business?
Post by: Jaybee on August 30, 2007, 02:58:15 am
Do you pull in much business from the signwriting on your vehicle? I don't have signwriting on mine but it's something I am considering.

Yes.

I always ask where people got our number from and quite often its:

"Oh,I've seen your vans driving round and got the number from them",

or,

"You were doing a job down the street last week and I took your number"

the idea that some one sees your van and reaches into their pocket and gets out a pen &paper to write down your number is not really feasible, even less if you are driving passed  them, they don't have the time before you disappear.

whats more likely is they see your van, remember your name then look in the YPs to find your number.

I dont think it does.

However, I would rather have it sign written than not.

I agree people don't normally carry pen and paper, but they do carry mobile phones and can simple tap the number in and save it.

I've done it loads of times.

I get a fair amount of work from my van. It helps if you have an easy to remember website address on it.

Hi guys

Mine cost 250 and I've had about 1500 in 18 months so definitely worth it and it looks more professional.

Cheers

Must say It is ONLY a good investment. at worst you will make your money back.

Funny thing happened to me -

I do not have my phone number on the back (just on the sides) of my van.

SO

Potential customer phoned up , asked about price (- like they always do...) and then started going on about me not having my phone number on the back of my van - so I asked "why does this bother you?"

Her reply:

"Well I had to overtake you to get your phone number on the side of your van"

But I think its a once in a lifetime experiance.

Id say 1-2 jobs a month.  Value over the years would be a few grand from a £250 investment so very good.

Anyone have the full fast track type signage and does it do any better.

Mark

PS. Philip for what its worth i think your doing your business damage with the 'loody bit.  You may think its funny but others esp women will be put off. Also you need a landline number too and people feel more comfortable that you have an address/home/premises and dont operate from a caravan and here today gone tomorrow types.  Just my opinion.

I use a fast track style and it doesn'y make anymore difference next time I'll go somewhere inbetween. You know what good marketers say "test test test"

Hi

People will make an assumption of what you do & your charging structure from you van.

10 year old smoky transit cheap, brand new silver wrapped a little more.

It never ceases to amaze me how many sign-written vehicles i see being driving by complete maniacs. I was once so outraged by the driver of a Carol Nash Insurance vehicle that i actually emailed them to let them know what a complete t#sser was allowed to drive in their cars. He pulled straight out in front of me from a side road (he saw a small car coming towards him at 40mph -that being MY car- and must have thought 'awe f#ck it' and just put his foot down) then proceded to drive through Walmley Villiage (sutton coldfield) without once using his indicators, although as i said to them in the email it must be hard to steer the car round a corner AND switch an indicator on when you're holding a mobile fone to your ear.

So if you are ever in Walmley Villiage (Sutton Coldfield) then please be aware of the t#at driving a Carol Nash logoed vehicle....

Judging from your pic you look like you have a fantastic view from your house - are you on the coast? Your profile says Cornwall - where abouts are you?

I think the trick here is branding keep all your marketing in the same theme use the same logo etc on everything so people will see the van and then be able to look it up in the yellow pages or something. works very well for me.

Perhaps it's been vehicle wrapped in cellophane!

Some people try to be exclusive and aloof by having no sign writing on their vehicles waiting for the moment for passes by to ask them what are they are doing and then they can tell them that they are carpet cleaners and are so good that they don't need to advertise.

Livery gives you an advert and an I.D, how many people have had there vans nicked and driven away for miles without getting caught? you only have to tell the Police that it has a unique signage and they'll have got it before you know.
