anyone ever used a standard O ring on any of their gear,
Had an O ring blow on the lance of my steel sprayer and you pay around £8-10 for a chemically resistant one. Only had this sprayer for 3 Months so do you think I might as well get a handfull from a plumbers merchants (at about 30p each)?

Bought a couple of dozen from the plumbers merchant for the 'o' ring on one of my wands trigger valve. They are the best thing ive ever bought for a coupe of quid!
They have helped me out many a time when they have split due to cold weather.

O'Rings are generally made from Nitrile and sometimes Viton which is harder (they are also poisonous so don't chew one.) I think that if you look up Nitrile you will find that it is very chemical resistant and it wouldn't suprise me if the "chemical resistant" ones are nitrile anyway. Viton is a little more resistant and a little more expensive, but never pay more than 10p for an O-Ring unless it's the size of an armband.
I used to be a hydraulics engineer and for those of you in Leeds I would recommend Hydraulic Equipment Supermarkets, ask for Peter and he'll probably just give you the O-Ring for free anyway as the minimum order charge is a fiver.
