Hi Keith,

There are loads of wet & dry vacs available from lots of different manufacturers.
How much water or soil you are intending to suck up will of course affect which size/model to go for.

Numatic and Nilfisk are a couple of reliable brands on the market.

Thanks Derek

Basically I want one thats heavy duty and medium in size, occasionally I need to suck the sludge/grease from a grease trap under a commercial kitchen sink.

Do you think a fat digestor chemical should be added? can you recommend any?

Also do these vacs have a reverse motor to dispose sludge etc down a outside drain?

The whole idea of the grease trap is to prevent the grease going down the drain and causing a blockage. If you were caught disposing of it down a drain you could face a heavy fine.
Advise them to install a digester system. Costs peanuts.

John is right, you do not want to be tipping anything down the drains. If you do a search on google for kitchen grease trap disposal, you will get loads of information.

Keith

see this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4060730.htm

At that price you could afford to use it a few times and chuck it out....just add the % cost your quote...

Thanks all,

That grease trap had not been cleaned for 4 months and was also blocked with food particles & dozens of tea bags in the sink by dozy catering staff who couldn`t give a stuff, after reading up a bit on grease traps after the event, apparently they should be cleaned at least on a fortnight/monthly basis.

I guess you guys are right about getting rid of sludge/grease down the road drain, but the management are useless, by not providing a emergncy wet & dry vac to dispose of the excess spilling of water all over the floor, or to provide sturdy pvc bags for the grease etc.

Mind you, I did leave the lid off the tank for a few hours, which in turn closed the small cafe/kitchen for the day, i hope that taught them a lesson.

John, what exactly do you mean by a digester system? are you refering to a kind of under sink mascerator? i did mention this, but the manager refused to consider installing one due to worrying about staff plunging cutlery down it.

Cheers bertie - thats a good buy! will definately buy one of them!

Keith

I've used the Numatic variety quite a bit - no problems.  I'd call them industrial equipment at a consumer (e.g. sensible) price.  They make the Henry range, although the commercial-end versions don't have the faces !  Check out their website (search Numatic).
