Title: BEWARE C.I.S !!!
Post by: The Great One on August 20, 2007, 08:31:59 pm
Hi guys

Just want you all to be aware of this company, they send you details of local building work etc being completed.

I signed up last year but have  forgotten about the 3 MONTHS cancellation clause.

Basically if you do not send in writing via recorded delivery that you want to cancel you are bound for another year, as i have found out to my detriment.

Of course they do call you once that deadline has passed to remind you that you have to send them the cash.

Please be aware if you choose to sign up with this company.

Regards

Hi

I'm no lawyer, but that sounds like an unfair contract.

On that basis i would tell them to shove it.

You do not state what CIS stands for or where they are based...it would be helpful to clarify this as there is more than one business using these initials and would be unfair and/or confusing to get them muddled up.

your a bright bloke. look up some case law. Sure you will find judgements given that will help you to tell them to go and %$£" themselves. Seriously, Davids thread is right, this is unlwaful. Something to do with inferred future contract.

Martin, i'm very unsure of this c.i.s you talk of? Personally i am now looking at my cis4(p)card to check the details? I do know these have been updated and i am sorting my staffs out now but this is specifically dealing with onsite work(building sites etc). So is the cis you are talking about an advertisement agency or summat? Inland revenue are very fair i find!?

We all wait for Martins reply as to what CIS really is.  :-\

Quick search on Google leads me to think it might be construction information service - but lets wait. :)

Hi,

Contact Information Services, based in Global Business Park, Peterborough. www.sealesleads.co.uk

We subscribed around 18 months ago, I never cancelled the contract, after the initial 12 month contract ran it's course I haven't heared off them. Haven't paid anymore either.

I would never subscribe to them again. After opening their first monthly "sales lead letter", the following are stacked unopened on my shelf!

Basically they just send you planning permission notices which are local to your area.

Cheers,

Huw

Hi Guys

Sorry, I have not replied, my hard drive crashed.

Yes as Huw said Contact Information Services, based in Global Business Park, Peterborough. www.sealesleads.co.uk

My contract states that the first and second years at a certain price, I spoke with them today and told them what I thought of their business practice, they only phone you once the 3 month period has passed, where you are then contractually forced to stump up for another years subscription.

Very unhappy
