Hi like the title says, i'm in need of some input to help me quote for this1 as its the first time i quote for a bige job. ::)
This quote is for a block of retirement flats to be clean every 8wks outsides only.
the movie shows every side and windows(no1 is repeated). http://need-a-cleaner.com/flats.wmv
thank you
-
can you count the amount of windows on it, then post on here, there seems to be loads and by the end of the sideshow i got lost.
-
Personally i would charge a full days rate plus 50% as it would take a full day to do a job of that size that price is for the first clean and also the constant working would be tiring
After you have done it once you will have a better idea how long it will take future cleans and where you can save time and make the job even more profitable
I am also presuming that you are wfp
Just work out what your full days rate is put your price in and go for it
Nice job to get though
Dean

Hi Dean, yes i'm WFP but only with trolley at the moment.
the building is being clean already by WFP but the WC that does it dont does the sills as he says it cant do it ???strange.
-
With this one I would charge a hourly rate of £50 for the job, I would also add 20% on as well.
Next I would not use a trolley if possible on all of the building, the main reason is you will be walking miles to kept filling up.
I would use microbore hose, which is a lot easier than garden hose to control.
At the moment, I have 140 metres of hose on a 100 psi pump, but at times I have also connected another 40 metres and still have the pressure to do the job.

Hi William i agree that with the trolley it will be a pain in the backside, but at the moment i dont have another alternative until i'm able to afford another van and the kit it goes with it. :'(
-
How many barrels of water do you normally carry, is it not possible to connect the the hose reel to all of these barrels at once.
-
i dont have that much yet, im going to have 2 use the trolley the first and maybe second time if i get it :'(
-
Spread your barrels around the site before you start work,it`ll save you having to go back to the van every 5mins.If that`s going to be your biggest job make a note of how much water you use each clean,it will give you more of an idea of how big a tank you`ll need when you go vanmount.
-
when i go van mount i'm aiming for a vivaro with a 650lt tank ;)
-
but i would still like to see some more input on the price ??? :-[
-
Really good choice of tank size and vehicle.
-
You won't go far wrong if you charge £1 per window. This allows for the fact that there isn't much down time (travelling between jobs etc) and as a lot of the windows are relatively small, the time you save on those will make up for the extra time to do dormers and windows with grills on.
Having all the work in one lump means you will cover more glass than if it were lots of smaller jobs, but as has been mentioned constant working is very tiring and you will need plenty of breaks.
If your count is right, charge £290 plus a bit for unforseen problems,
Say £325 total.
Cheers,
Ian

Who's paying the residents or the management company? Or did I miss it.
-
i belive that is both as the residents must have a fee included in ther agreements ::)
-
Ah right, I have a retirement home but it's the residents that pay and not all want them done. I charge per flat.
-
no this 1 is for the whole lot ;D

Are you quoting this for a mangment company if so this is how it will work.
You will give them a quote and as i have been doing these sorst of cleans for 4 years i have 30 blocks and i can tell you it will be down to price ....over price it you wont get it simple.
You will give a quote along with so many others the management company then go armed to the annual landlords meeting( the people who own the land on which the flats are built on) who will then say we have so much for the maintenance of the building so if you say £500.00 per year and they only have a budget of £200 you wont even get told you didnt get the contract so be competitive.
What do you want to earn in a day after all your deductions forget the £1 per window this and £2 for lead etc etc what do you want to realistically earn?
I quote these jobs up on a day rate so i would look at it and think ....6 hours max at the hourly rate i have given myself on what i need and want to turnover in a day.
If you want to earn £200 per day after tax,NI,insurances, fuel etc then you need to be looking at 7 hours per day @ £30.oo peer hour so therefore if you think this job will take you 6 hours then the quote would be £180.00.........price it right you will get a lot more work.
Be greedy and you will loose it thats the experience i have.
The biggest block of flats i do is WFP 2 days for £700 thats for 70 flats on 4 floors sounds alot but i do another 29 blocks

Thank you for your input easycleanwindows, this quote is for 73 flats in total but only over3 floors
-
Easyclean is probably right about the price, but that is a lot of work for £180!! You could probably earn that amount a lot easier on domestic work. I price up jobs like this, but I always chance my arm with a higher price as I would rather not get the job than end up with a huge poorly paid job that I dread doing every month!! ;)
-
OK also as your using a trolley you can minimise on youre water usage. i have a tap fitted to the end of each pole but to scrub i kink the hose thus only using a very small amount of water then you have plenty for all windows remember you only need more water for the rinse not the clean......you dont use much on an aplicator!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
i agree houndog but NEED A CLEANER'S post is ering on the side of him wanting this contract so all im saying is in this line of cleaning "blocks of flats" you got to be competative becuase there is a budget allready in place and i dont think pricing high is going to get him the contract at the end of the day we are not specialists so 6 hours @ £30 per hour is not that bad really. And its his first big contract......
but remeber this NEED A CLEANER if you dont get it dont worry you didnt have it in the first place....so your not going to miss it
-
I'm not a pro window cleaner but i think the day rate advise would be good to go with for now.
If its your first big contract it would be really good to get it, and like everyone on here says, you can better you work if you get the chance in the future.
-
I'm not a pro window cleaner
Do you clean them for free then?? ;D
-
I do, but i'm fully Booked. ;D

If you look on my profile, you see I'm from Birmingham.
As for earning £50.00 per hour, on quite a lot of jobs I earn that or more, for instance I have one nursing home I charge £175.00 it takes me 1 1/2 hours to do, which equals to £116.66 per hour, another is an office block this I only charge £165.00 but it does only take an hour to do, on both clients the work went out to tender.
I also charge a 1st clean price of £25.00, which means that I could be earning £100 every hour of the day, if they were all placed together, and quite clean to begin with, but lofe is not that kind.
On average over a days work, spread over a week then I do not earn less than £35.00 per hour.
Now if you start to take away all of my expenses (Petrol-wfp running costs- van mainternance-road tax- insurance-business insurance-ect ect ect) you will see that my earnings are quite normal.
-
Thank you for all your replies and advice, now i have another request does any1 have a copy of a tender that would not mind me having ::) look at in order to create mine
-
I would like to thank you to every1 that put an input on this topic, i have decided to go for £345 as its still about 25mins each way travel, i will let you know the outcome once i get any news :)
-
Well this 1 slide away, they decided to stick with the other company for the time be, but will keep my details on file for a future opportunity.
Win some, loose some. :)
