What is the best Ro in your opinion for me to get for a backpack system? I've been reading some people saying that they get massive waste and hardly any pure water in their tanks. So I was just wondering what RO I should look at for my first go at my own set up. Or Should I get a TDS meter first and test my tap water and then get back to you guys?
-
Yes get a TDS meter. You will need one anyway.
Or post your general location. I am pretty sure the ppl here will be able to tell you if you are in a soft or hard water area.
-
I'll tell you its hard water just by the amount of limescale in my kettle, lol ;D. Will order a Tds meter now, were is best?
-
You will need to know your water pressure too - have a chat with Alex or Kirsty at Gardiners.
-
Well. To be honest if you know you are in a hard water area then you will have to get an RO.
Basically the smaller the system the more waste you will get. Unless it's a Merlin which always has a high waste to pure ratio.
I run a 300GPD RO and get about a 1 to 1 waste to pure ratio which is very acceptable in RO performance terms but it may be that it is too big for your needs ATM. Well.. not big coz it isnt big at all lol. Getting an idea of your water pressure might be a better idea coz water pressure is so important in RO performance.
All a TDS meter tells you is the PPM of solids and not what the solids are made up of. Save getting a TDS until you order your RO for now.

I know my water pressure is really, really strong. I can have my hose in the garden and tap on in the house and still get a strong water pressure from both. Is the stronger the pressure the better?
-
Dont confuse flow with pressure.
I can do the same but my pressure isnt that good.
-
Ah I see. Do you guys have a telephone number for gardiners

There ya go!!!
:)
Hmmm I cant see the type of RO there that you will probably be wanting. They used to do them. Well worth a call though.

Thank you for that. Just come to ring them a couple of minutes ago and found that they closed at 5 :'(. Anyway, I cleaned my garage out, put my tank in there and scrapped my rs turbo :'(. So the money I got for her I'm going to put towards my system and buy myself a new car with the profits lol. Anyway I've got the money in my business account now and I'm just waiting to ivest in my text bit of kit!

Other than one is empty and the first one comes with the resin ( i think ) no!

The purefreedom one is a small one but does come with resin. Its fine for low to medium water usage. It can be refilled easilly with resin. I should know. I have one
The cleantech one is a much bigger vessel and comes without resin. Much more suited to DI only set ups and volume production from an RO and NOT easy to refill. I should know.. I have one just like this as well lol :)

Whats the problem re-filling?
-
I was thinking of of running my system all weekend and then maybe a top up in the week. I was thinking of buying the purefreedom unit for now until I can afford the top spec units. Would think be ok to run in this way. I mean I'm playing with a small budget at the moment as its my first year and I'd like to pay out for a wfp system for now and then replace with better equipment once my turnover is a little higher.

The rotten riser tube :( I have a 35 inch high DI unit. Its a real pain to do. :(

Can I order from the purefreedom website?

Nope you have to call them. It's all a ploy for Andrew McCann to sell you this and that and separate from you from a lot more wonga than u thought lol :)
Naa he's a decent guy. Just call them and they will sort you out pronto.
