Post by: matt jones on August 08, 2007, 12:07:58 pm
Hi guys,
Up untill now i havent bothered with direstories. Had a rep come around to see me this morning was still in bed when he came around forgot he was coming lol. Anyway i have unded up taking out a £400 ad what have i done???
Got 14 days to cancel if i change my mind abit scary though. I know alot of you guys have dropped the directories this year cause they arent bringing in the work, but i suppose i will have to try and see for myself.

Thompsons in my area dont work. They may appear cheaper than YP but the areas are much smaller. I have cut my YP ad from a 13 cm by 6.5 cm to a 1.5 by 6.5 cm at £125 and its made no difference so far, I'll see what its like later in the year when all the old directories have been binned.

I am of the view not all old directories get binned, and more then that the "old" ones still get used.
This year I have stayed with BT Phone Book but not signed anything yet with YP of Thomsons. I may well do something with them but like others of you out there I find they are not performing to expectations.

Walked away from both this year and have put everything into google and yahoo plus all the parish mags I can.

I Have never got my money back on Yell and Thom so thought I would use the money saved to do other things. Googlke works really well.

Parish mags - brilliant!

5 jobs this year for around £1000, cost £20

Advertised in thomson twice and never much response from either, absolute waste of money.
Yell.com has done nothing this year so far, will not be using again. I find that leaflets work best in our area.

Dumped Thomson and it's add ons this year. Total rubbish.
Yellow pages with yell.com has come up trumps already this time.
Possibly a reason for this is that we have reduced the size of the advert, it's all very well taking out a full or half page nice picture advert but it makes you look expensive before the customer has picked up the phone.

Just out of interest has anyone ever tried a full page colour ad in YP or Thompson?

Cheers

Clearly Directories are a dying breed. They are all getting smaller nowhere more so than in highly urbanised areas. YP does seem to be putting up some resistance in spots around the UK but the would be's are as good as finished.

Has anyone else tried the front directory of the BT Phone Book. Less competition and can be found near to the phone of a lot more customers than Yellow Pages. I have doubled the response from advertising in it!
