quick question does the lead with the fuse go to + or - on the battery?

YES! +++++++ Side should have a red dot on the battery.

thanks jeff so the fuse goes to the plus side, i got them mixed up.cheers

If you got them mixed up and connected them, you will have blown the fuse, always keep a couple of spare fuses in your van (red 10amp ones.)
