I STILL GET EMBARRASSED
when i see ex sales colleagues of mine and they say , so what are you doing now gary....
i know i should hold my head up as already my eanings are surpassing theres....
but i still feel there is a stigma attached to w/c.....
does anyone else feel the same... or am i being para.

I used to care.
I've gone from being a Sales & Marketing Manager to a cook.
I'm way past caring now. You'll get like that too.
I'm now totally the opposite. I now tell people I'm just a cook and hated being a director and I dont usually tell people I'm self employed. People assume things about you if you run your own business (like your a multimillionaire). I like people thinking I am just a cook as I am then in control of how much they know. Control = power.

so your not a w/c then lizzy ???

Nope. Used to run an Industrial Cleaning Business. I joined this forum when I ran that business. Hubby is considering starting on his own after Xmas, as a window cleaner.
My business had council contracts that were part time which were mega money an hour. I HATED the work. So jacked it in.
Lifes too short to put up with doing things we hate.

thats why i left sales... nice company car, suit.... and a load of crap that went with it........... people up their own asses, targets, percentages... works naff parties....
i love what i do now i really do.

If everyone thinks your 'just a window cleaner' thats good for you, cos they won't be thinking of starting up, so, more work for the rest of us! Theres a lot of people that wouldn't mind earning a pound less than a window cleaner. (if only they knew)

And long may it stay like that Gary.

I wouldn`t worry about old work collegues mate they couldn`t give a about what your up to now or most of them anyway, things always look good when you look back you never remember the bad times or when you were earning a 1/3 of what your earning now.

ok. It is easy, you need to find some nice small companies to work for, and when dec comes around start dropping hints about the office party and hey presto up comes an invite. ;)

Totally agree and that is exactly one of the reasons I want to work to increase public perception of what is a skilled industry we work in.
I have lost count over the years the number of people who "turn their nose up" when I tell them what I do!
I attend regional meetings for several organisations and its so funny when they ask what I do and when they know I get the "just excuse me for one minute, I just need to see that gentleman over there" !!
The crazy thing about it is at these meetings I have presented on 3 times ways to generate and increase business and afterwards people have always thanked me and commented on what they have learn't, funny when before the seminar I was "just a window cleaner"!!
-
Yes I know, when I had a "proper" job I was a somebody. Now I am a window cleaner I am a nobody. I don't care though, I look down on my former workmates and all their petty sqabbling, the lies and the backstabbing. They are welcome to it all.
You know you are taking it too seriously when you drive back to a customers house because you remember you forgot to do the toilet and bathroom window on the side of the house even though they are frosted and the chances of the customer noticing are tiny.

I bought a pump the other day and was quizzing her on the reading difference of water from the tap and the tds coming after the pump...before that I was asking her opinion on whether I should use swivels on the brushes or would I be better off using different brushes...now the reposnse I got from the girlfriend amazed me...absolutley no intrest whatsoever.... ??? ??? I just don't understand them sometimes...
Dave.
