hi. Does anyone employ techs or subcontract work out. I have too much work coming in at the moment that I can handle.
I am thinking about either setting someone up and taking a percentage of their takings or even franchising an area off. Not quite sure how to go about it but I have to do something in the near future. Any advice would be appriciated.

hi there,
different scenarios, for different reasons is one way of looking at it.
franchising, if you decide to franchise off, then you would look to take an upfront fee, depending on how you want to do things.
you could create a franchise area, and provide all the kit etc, then charge a more upfront franchise fee, along with a monthly percentage of turnover, ie a royalty fee.
the other way would be to employ someone, and provide them with the kit, and possibly put them on a bonus scheme per monthly turnover.
advantage of employing, better direct management of the situation, full control, and if the person isnt right then you can easily replace the person. providing a bonus scheme, will provide a sort of loyalty.
You could then in time offer the franchise to the operative, if you wished.
the latter option of employing someone provides you with an increase level of profits, whilst having complete control of how the operation is run.
therefore the decision is if you could do with an upfront cash injection then franchise, long term increase in profit then employ.
if you sub contrasct out totally, you loose all control, and possibly future business.

I frequently have a local colleague sub contract to me. We have an agreed daily rate, so when quoting, I will know in advance what my costs will be. I prefer to sub out commercial work as it's more profitable. Occasional small domestic jobs are passed on without any fees or charges. If I can make a days work, then the daily rate applies.
Have you considered offering a tempory job for an assistant up until Christmas? This could considerably increase your output, you'd remain in complete control and you will retain more of your cleaning fees. If you had the right person, and business was still strong post Christmas..........

Employing someone can be fine if you are incredibly lucky and find the right person.
Otherwise its a total nightmare, they bunk off, cut corners, phone in sick whien you have a full diary etc etc.
They simply don't have your commitment You could well end up getting less work done than if you are on your own.
