Title: ro readings again
Post by: bluesteve on July 29, 2007, 09:25:28 am
i ve just replaced my ro membrane on my 100 gpd and i replaced the three filters on it as well. i flushed the filters out for about 10 minutes before connecting up the ro unit.
i ve been running the ro unit since about 2200 hrs last night and at the moment (1020hrs) im still getting about 68-70 ppm , i have nt connected my di resin cartridge. im pretty sure it does nt take this long to get down to
a much lower reading. the tap water is coming in at about 270ppm.
Also does the ro membrane dry up if the packaging been left open?
cheers for any help and sorry if the topic has been covered but i cant seem to find the answers for these questions.

flush the membranes for 30 mins, take some readings before you turn the flush off.

(my gut reaction is that the membranes are not getting enough pressure though but do the flush test anyway)

The membrane will degrade if the packaging is left open.  This sounds like this is your problem.  You really need to fit a new membrane.

When fitting new pre-filters you need to flush them for about 3-4 hours before connecting back up to the membrane.

'Better safe than sorry'.

Flushing the pre-filters helps to remove any debris in them which might otherwise clog up the membrane's surface.

Sorry to jump on your post but - I am having a reading of 15ppm I know as close to 0ppm is what I should be aiming for but is 15ppm ok? Whats the Max reading before changing filter etc?

Thanks
Andy

What RO are you using, what is your input TDS and what's the best output reading you have had in the past?

I have the 300GPD RO which I bought from pure freedom couple of weeks ago - The TDS Input is 525ppm and the output is 20 - 22ppm - I have flushed the membranes also. The best reading was 0ppm but that was when I first got it and the input TDS reading then was 461ppm.

If your input is 525 ppm then it is fairly miraculous to get an output TDS of only 15 ppm!  Does the unit have an inbuilt resin bead canister?  If so, this may be the reason that at first it was reading 000 ppm but now the resin will be exhausted and it has risen to the proper reading.  Personally, I would contact Pure Freedom and check with them.

I rang freedom and yep you were right they say change the Resin - they reckon its because of all the rain water we been having! - where is the best place to get resin?

Thanks
Andy

If you use a lot then it is best to buy it in 25litre sacks, or if you use less then you can buy it 5 or 1 litre at a time. Most WFP suppliers do it mail order.
