Post by: dudek on July 27, 2007, 09:41:20 pm
Does anyone know whether its best to have a water softener or not and if the answer is yes where should it take its place in the system , is it before the ro cus i currently have mains water straight to the ro into the rest of the system.

Please someone help!!! :-\

The main reason to have a ws fitted is to make the ro membrane last longer.
If you live in a soft water area then don't worry about it.  It's probably not worth the worry unless you have an expensive ro system either, my softener is a 3500L one and set me back £400ish you can buy them smaller and cheaper but if your using an ro man or something similar the ro would be cheaper than the ws so why bother.  Very good for 4040 systems or merlin though.

The ws goes after the mains water before the ro.

or I put mine on the house water saving more money on washing stuff ie;
soap shampoo it makes your skin soft aarrhh! towels soft my tds is 280
then it goes to the garage and to the van
30tlr softener from www.gapwater.co.uk

Anything over 100 tds is hard water and benefits from a softener  like Sherwoods said makes the ro last longer a lot longer Edd

Just for the sake of argument, what would a softener take a 280tds down to?

You fill it up with salt.  The softener will then either do a regeneration of the resin inside on a timed basis or on a metered basis or you press a button and get it to do a regen.  When you notice that the salt level is going down top it up.  Piece of cake.

tds dosn`t change ,this will take to long to explain go on an ro based website
for an explaination but basically a salty or saline solution would be better for
the membrane then hard water as the hard water will block the membrane quicker so to speak sorry EDD
