Hi,
Stopped my Bank Of Scotland business account last week due to unfair banking charges etc.
This week I decided to use my local Halifax branch to pay my cheques into my private account using the Express pay-in envelope. What you do is write on the back of the envelope your bank detail and the amount deposited, they have a maximum of £250 cash they will accept and unlimited cheques. You then tear a slip from the back of the envelope and write on how much you have deposited then pop the envelope through slot in the box.
Posted cheques on Thursday afternoon and there is no record of them being proceed into my account (Now Sat) when they should take 1 working day to show on your account (Not clear into you account though)
Very worried now as it was a considerable amount of money and wont sleep for the remainder of the weekend, has anyone else had a problem with this type of pay in system, is this normal?

Hi Peter,
I have used Abbey hole in the wall for past 5 years and they haven't lost a cheque yet.
Relax , have a few beers , I'm sure it will be alright.

Hi Peter,
I use this facility in the halifax on a regular basis, if the envelope is deposited after 15.00 it goes in on the next working day. I always see the cheques showing on my online account the same or next day. Try ringing 08457 203040 (24hrs) just to see if there are any probs.

Halifax are very strict on paying in business cheques and are not very kind to self employed people, its been in the news several times over last few years.
I had my whole account closed down several years ago for doing the same thing and they were not cooperative at all.
It's possible they will reject the cheques if it's a personal account, esp if there is evidence they come from a business and are a lot of cheques for a sizable sum.
It would be better to get a business account with free banking or flat rate fees.
I'm not saying this to worry you and hope they turn up ok, but prob is worth thinking about in the future.

Either it will turn up in your account or they will write to you and query as to why you are attempting to pay business cheques into a personal account,this is now viewed as money laundering and could get yourself and the bank into deep water.
You really need to open another business account asap-John

if its only for a short time and the bank asked where there from , you could tell them the cheques were from stuff you sold on ebay ;)

I pay all my cheques in my name into my personal account with Halifax and never had a single question off them and considering I do not collect, I have a lot of cheques in every Friday/Saturday.

Halifax is part of the B of S, so it's possible something has gone wrong when you stopped the B of S account. A visit to the branch shoulf fix things for you.

Thanks for the encouragement, I think you may be right in the fact that I'm attempting to use a personal account as business account, they may well have held the cheques and cash to one side.
The thing that concerns me is that I put £211 in cash in the envelope as well as the cheques (they accept a max of £250). I hope one of the members of staff haven't put the cash in there pockets and chucked the rest claiming that the envelope has gone missing.
I knew I shouldn't have put cash in!
