Title: Thought this forum was about Window Cleaning

Not an excuse to have a pop at each other!!

Think it's time to stop posting threads aimed solely at others if you get my drift Macc & Groundhog.

Surprised the mods have not already locked them.

Paul, this Mod has only just read the Groundhog thread!
If I'd read it prior to groundhog replying to it I'd have deleted it, but as he hasn't taken personal affront, on this occasion we'll let it go...with a mild slap on the wrist to Macc :-X

and actually some of the replies made valid points (without criticizing groundhog in the process).

Ian

Hi Paul, if we worked in offices we'd have the occassional pop at work colleagues and a bit of a squabble. Differences of opinion are a part of life and certainly having read the Groundhog/Macc postings nothing untoward has been said...certainly nothing the average skinned person would find offensive.

It's only by having differing viewpoints and exchanging ideas/thoughts does the Human race progress....

Besides it makes amusing reading ;D

I agree, but when it goes so far as naming a thread after another WCer & using it to slag him off then I personally think that's going too far.

I do think the Mods have responded well now , and explained well. They haven't got on their high horse, and have accepted that you are probably right, but have also argued moderation.

If they took everything off it would be a bit bland.

The bit they leave on that really surprise's me is the pikey comments. Don't they realise this is rascist and probably actionable. You get the british council of gypsies file suit and you'll know about it.

Pikeys are not Gypsies and Gypsies would be the first to get upset by the suggestion that they were.

Pikey just means "thief" in Gaelic but it is used by the Irish to describe the Irish travellers who are hated over there. It is probably a racist term though.

I know some showmen. When one has gotten into a row with another, I was impressed with the phrase ' you're nowt but a bricked up pikey.'
My impression was that in general slang pikey did mean gypsey.

Very often in common usage words mean the opposite of their actual meaning.

One example is the biblical term decimate. Herod had one in ten killed, but through centuries of misuse it has come mean nine out fo ten, or near total destruction.

Another word in this catergory is sophisticated. The philosopher sophocles was renowned for clever but false arguments. ( proving two plus two equals five for instance), and this is what the word meant and came from, overly or unecessarily complicated. Nowadays it means stlylish and clever.(not unlike myself)
