Hi
I was using a prochem steam machine on a carpet that I would normally use a bonnet,,,anyway the carpet was not to bad, so I used little chemical (double clean), about a day after cleaning these stains appeared not all over, I could clearly see where the wand had been in some parts and in others it was fine. The carpet was beige and the stains were a rust colour. I have been back twice and used the bonnet with some oxibrite and reduced it heaps,,,the customer is demanding that I pay for a new carpet (which i will do) But I just dont want this to happen again.
Has anyone got any thoughts.
Thanks
Sam

Hi,
What type of carpet? Did you vac and prespray? If so what prespray did you apply?

prevac yes
prespray no
The carpet was a 80/20 nylon/wool and the stain seemed just to be on the top (not coming from underneath) The customer said that it had never been cleaned before (1 year old)

The wand that I used is relatively new and i have used it since, I did not clean the machine out either and carried on and did some more jobs which are fine (using the same chemicals) ???

Double clean is a heavy duty detergent and 9.5ph. As you say the carpet was not too bad the choice of detergent was not correct. It is also not really suitable for wool. The stains are probably browning stains. Probably caused by the product and possibly overwetting.

sounds like a clear case of browning caused by to high ph and overwetting.
there is no need to replace the carpet, re clean with hwe using prochem fibre and fabric rinse. prespray with a solution of prochem browning prescription. this should solve theproblem.

sam, your problem does sound to me like Celulosic Browning, and this can be rectified, but test the carpet before applying b175 or similar de browning product as this can and somtimes does lighten the carpet fibres which gives the effect that the carpet has been bleeched!
