Title: If you don't have one, get one!
Post by: paul mather on July 04, 2007, 06:53:42 pm
Came home early from work today to find my 2 X-Tel poles had arrived an 18 footer & a 30 footer.

All I can say is WOW, even the 30ftr is lighter than my current 24 ft Universal pole. I have combined them with a Superlite Brush & I can't wait to get to work tomorrow weather permitting!

Get to Gardiners & check them out (or am I the last to get one!!!)

Paul

Go easy when the first section is fully extended, I broke my 18 and 30 footers within 24 hours.

Make sure you have at least 8 in overlap inside the pole, Its quite easy to check.

First undo the bolt on no 1 clamp and take off the lever completely, the pole section should just slide out with a bit of persuassion.

If there is less than 8 inches then move the tape along the section, on mine i now have 12 inches behind the clamp when fully extended.

Is that all that's inside them ???   Tape?   :o :o

What happens if the tape moves over its life span and you have no way of knowing

Somebody please....... Alex ??  they must be more substantial than that surely

How can the tape move???

My facelift has tape on the sections on the inside and has never moved in just under a year!

I reckon the facelift glass fibre pole has to be one if not the strongest pole out there!!!

I extend mine past the red tape sometimes and only leave a couple of inches over lap and has never broke! Its so strong! just like me! ;D ;D

The tape on the facelift and other poles is a guide so you don`t get into snapping territory.

Dave does this apply to just the first section only or does it need to be repeated on the next section down?

Does it also apply to the Hybrid (glass/carbon) poles?

I'm expecting a 17 ft Fibre glass and 31 ft Hybrid anytime now.

Cheers

The 'tape' on the Facelift pole is not tape it is a red layer under the top resin coat.

I have not felt the need to dismantle an X-tel yet so do not know the exact tape type. I'm sure that it will be more than enough for the job though as all it is doing is adding a little extra bulk to stop the section over extending.

The reason that you had problems with your poles Dave (I do not think that you bought them from us) is that the factory in Finland sent some of the first batch of them out with the wrong overlap 10cm instead of 25cm, they also sent some of them out with a different grade top section. If yours broke that quickly, Dave you should have got straight back to your retailer who would have instructions from the Factory to replace the poles for you free of charge.

Paul, do not worry about taking your pole apart and checking the overlaps. I know for sure that the batch that your 18ft pole is from has all the correct sections and overlaps and if you have any problems with the 30ft then we can sort it out for you. We are using some of the same poles that probably have the wrong overlaps and have had no problems at all with them.

Spotless2000 if your 17ft and 31ft hybrid are from us and I think that they are, then rest assured that there are no problems with those poles at all. So just go out and use them.

Alex

You are fight they wasnt from you.

You are also right about the wrong spec being sent out from the factory.

The trouble is that the first section is very lightweight , although it is strong , it is only strong at the right length, extend it all the way and put a bit of weight behind it and it could snap.

I mentioned about the overlap to the unmentioned supplier before they told me. the actual overlap on my pole was 8 in and it still snapped.

I would reccommend not extending the first section all the way if you have to put any weight behind the first section.

I still havent fixed my first section on my 30 footer , so i will take some photos over the weekend showing the problem and the repair.

I did not send the poles back as it was too much hassle for me, even though the supplier offered to replace them.

Saying that dont let my experience stop you buying one as they are very good poles and if yours snaps it is a very easy repair and you will end up with a no 1 section that is the right size for the pole weight.

p.s the other sections are a lot stronger and in my opinion will never snap under normal use.

What do you think the Hybrid 24ft is like compared to the 24ft carbon facelift.

Hi NWH,

I was offline at the time you asked your question. :)

How do they compare?

Weight

Rigidity

Says it all, apart from the fact that the hybrid has shorter sections.
