Morning all
Had an enquiry from a friends parents asking if I could clean her sofa. No probs I said, she said thats great as no other company would touch it when she describes the sofa. I can't see what the problem is, am I missing something or what? The ticket reads:
Filling - Feathers & Fibre
Composition - 33% polyester, 40% cotton, 27% Viscose.
Other than the feather part I can't see a problem, I planned to use fabric restorer & then fabric & fibre rinse.
Thanks in anticipation

Viscose is up to 7 times weaker when wet, I'd go and investigate further first.

I had an NCCA Member ring me this weak in a panic Timmy. He had a suite not too dissimilar in composition to the one you have just mentioned. He cleaned it as your proposal and was delighted with the results. So was Madam :) Until the next day >:( The suite dried with pink patches. If any NCCA Member wants to read about his story, he's written about it in the next edition of Newslink.
For myself Timmy Boy, I work as close to pH neutral as possible with pre-treatment and rinse. This vastly reduces the potential for colour damage to pH sensitive upholstery dyes.
Safe and happy cleaning :)

Have first hand experience of this (unfortunately) and Ken is right. Keep it neutral and very low on moisture. I would test with something like pre-spray gold. Think it's about 5.5ph and you only need to fine mist spray. Results are quite good too.

Timmy,
Is it a green suite, if so beware!

Hi guys
I have seen blacks bleed to pink on viscose.
The key in my experience is use very little water, light mist neutral product, agitate microfibre cloth then very ligthty extract with acid rinse.
Cheers

thanks for the replies all, I'll give the pre spray gold a whirl (hopefully I will still have a friend at the end of it!) ;D

I don't work for family or friends.
15 years ago a " mate" asked me to clean his minging and covered in nicotine suite.
Said I would do it for £20 and a haircut, as his wife was a hairdresser.
He phones me back and says his wife was not happy with the price and neither was he.
Then slams down the phone. This was a guy I considered a mate for about 10 years.
Never seen him again and if I do, well, best forgotten I suppose.
Anyway, sorry for the rant,
You really have to watch points when work and moneys involved.
Hope it goes well Tim.
Sods law and all that. :-X
