Would you go for glass fibre or carbon?

I would say glass but I know others will strongly disagree. My view is that cheap is OK for low levels, why pay more?
If is going to be your all day every day pole its not going to last that long but then you buy another. The opposite view is that you deserve the best you can get, in particular if it going to be used a lot.

But then I'm a cheapskate.

I had a 35' Ionics carbon pole for a while but the clamps gave up clamping and I couldn't carry on with it.

I used it tops and bottoms for ages, no wonder I look like Mr Universe.

Anyway, I went and got a 18' glass and I think it's great... BUT, it's a bit whippy/bendy, and am I bit othered about getting a bigger one if it's goning to be really bendy.

I can't see needing a pole beyond 21' feet really.

I would recommend the new X-Tel range. The 21ft pole is very nice to use. It has four sections of about 5' 6" each. Yes it is a bit whippy but it is also very light, you could easily work all day with this pole.
