Title: Help with RO unit

Hi All

I am a total beginner to WC and setting up the equipment. My RO unit came today and I am a little confused at to where everything goes. I am most concerned with the mains attachment. It is a vice like attachment that attaches onto the pipe. You then turn a handel on the top and a sharp point decends down. I guess this is intended to pierce the pipe and route some of the water out to the RO unit. Is this safe to do, I am afraid of leaks and I am no plumber.

Sorry if I am not making any sense.

Any help appreciated.

I got one of  those tap things with mine, i didn`t use it as it looked to flimsy, went to B&Q and get a stronger one. I do use a outside tap now to run the RO.

Do you really want to connect it onto a copper pipe?  Most people have them in the garage or outside and actually want to connect to an outside tap.  Most WFP suppliers sell a suitable 1/4 inch to outside tap connector.

Steve - Paid a cvisit to B&Q tonight to be told they don't do anything like that. Apparantly the smallest that had was 8mm

Alex - No, I don't really want to put it on the pipe but I don't have an outside tap. Would it work on the plastic dishwasher pipe? That is far more easily replaced than the copper pipe should things go pete tong.

The sharp point goes on to the copper pipe mains water supply.

Hi

Ok, got the water supply sorted now, thanks for the help.

However, I have a new problem. The unit is connected to the DI chamber by a pipe into a collet(?). Apparantly you squeze the collet to release the pipe. I cannot get that collet out for love nor money. I am afraid to be too rough in case I break it but I cannot open the DI chamber to put the resin in without gettign the pipe (and collet) out. Any special trickes to do the job?
