Can any body tell me how to make a pdf file.
I have down loaded adobe 8 to do my pdf work but I cant make head nor tale of it.
Basically I want to design a leaflet and send it ina pdf file.
Do I just use microsoft word or publisher and then transfer it ? or do I put it straight on to abode 8 ?
Must say its got me flumixed

You need a programe called Primo PDF. Free to download from their site and others.
When installed all you do is click print in word and select Primo as the printer and it turns the document into a PDF for you to save.

Do you acually have adobe 8? or the reader?
To make a pdf in adobe acrobat its very easy and makes me think you have the reader, which doesnt make em.
Adobe charge you £200 for the privelage of making pdfs or you could try one of the web based ones that adds annoying tags or images in the corner.
(After setting all the conversion options and colour profiles) In acrobat 8, you get a splash screen that asks you what to do, you click make a pdf (generally i do it from multiple files option) then ammend the order of files and hit proceed. After that you give it a filename and location and thats 1 pdf. done.

Using Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro, I just open any folder on my desktop containing my sales letters, flyers and other documents, right click on whichever one I wish to convert, you should be given three options,- Convert to Adobe PDF, Convert to Adobe PDF and email or Combine in Acrobat, Choose whichever is apropriate to you.

I use Serif Page Plus....a desk top publishing program.
You design what ever you want, then export it as a PDF to which ever folder you want, or send as e-mail.
It's just another option....but easy for designing leaflets, quotes and invoices etc.
I can send you a copy....but then you'll have to learn how it works ;D
For me, it's one of the simpler more versatile methods of design and much more user friendly than above.

Nice speaking to you this evening. Sorry to butt in on conversation :).
If you havent figured out how to convert files to .pdf files yet go here:

1). Select the file you want to convert from your pc
2). Choose name of returned pdf you want
3). Input your email address you'd like to receive pdf to
4). Click convert to pdf button
I use this site all the time to convert publisher files to .pdf for advertising. Best of all you dont get any spam from them!

I dont know if it is the right PDF.
I want to send off a flyer for printing to print carrier.com, but they require it in one of the following formats.
Format: No MAC- files! All files must be sent with CMYK-colour settings. Use the following formats only: JPEG, TIFF, PDF (ISO PDF/X- 1a: 2001) or EPS. With vector graphic formats all text must be converted to paths! Set up pixel images with a minimum 240 dpi to avoid loss of quality during printing. For the alteration of incorrect files, we charge GBP10 plus VAT! Add 50% more cyan to black areas for a richer colour image.
I use word or publisher, so any advice would be greatfull.
Has any body else used print carrier.com ?

I havent used printcarrier but one of my local mags asked for all that jargon and i didnt know what it meant, sent them the pdf after converting on that site and it was published perfectly.
Give it a try and ask them to let you know if its acceptable. Some companies will accept publisher files and convert them for you as they have the correct software.

I could just make the pdf for you if you send me the publisher file. You might need to zip or rar it for email or you could upload it to a place like www.sendthisfile.com and mail me a link to your file.
I will need to look at the format options for print carrier, but i should be able to do this for you tonight if you dont get it sorted today.

Paul you should be able to convert any Office file to a PDF, there are plenty on the web , the download you got will just be the reader as you have to pay for the reader/writer. try one of theese,

Once installed you should be able to right click on the file or on some of them there is an option within the Office program you are using.

Hi If you've got Adobe and installed it it's quite simple! You've already done the hard work
Just open your leaflet in word or wherever it is and go to print, when you choose your printer make sure you choose the "Acrobat Distiller" ans then press print it will ask what you want to call the file and you're done!

I would recommend using Primo PDF. I have installed this simple printer driver and after creating my documents in word, excel etc i just send it to the Primo printer and thats the job done - very Simple and Cheap!

Would print carrier not do it for you?
Iv used a few web based printers before that only want designs in pdf or jpeg, but iv allways found that if you give them a call and tell them you have artwork but its in word they just tell you to e-mail it rather than upload and they will convert.
Iv had about 100,000 of printcarrier at 10-20,000 a time now and can honestly say i havent had a problem yet and there prices cant be beat.
what are you ordering? i thought you done a a4 pink, all there stuffs glossy aint it?

jpeg, my old printer used to send my proofs by e-mail to approve first which i allways saved to my computer, so i just uploaded them without problem, he used to charge more for 5000 than they do for 10,000 though so it seemed the only thing to do to me.
Iv got 10,000 a6's from print carrier sitting in my hall, got delivered today.
I picked there standard shipping (not express) and still only took 3 days from placing order till delivery, 10,000 cost just over £100 got to get them out now though ::)

As good as iv got of anybody else, if you wanna send me your adress il send you one of mine but theres no need, i aint gonna lie to you, they are quality leaflets at a budget price.
A4 to a5 means less info though which means less well informed clients which means harder work clients, which means more wasted time which could mean less profit.
Im thinkong to go bigger to get the better clients, you sure you wanna take the risk?
smaller leaflets means cheaper costs which means you can spread your net wider, this means you will get more work, but its unlikely you will get the same quality.
Be carefull not to end up the busy fool just for the sake of saving £50 on printing costs ;)

Gets me lots of work when i can get them out, but after a few bad experiences iv decided to target quality as opposed to quantity and am looking to change to a4 for next run.
