Has anyone ever tried putting a large half or full page ad (as opposed to a small ad/classified) in the local rag? If so what kind of response did you get?
Also, I have heard that if your leaflets are printed on pink paper, it dramatically improves response rates. Is there any truth in this?
Is this like the 'Financial Times' pink or the 'Strawberry Ice Cream' pink?
Apologies if these sound like stupid questions ;D

To your question No they want big money, have note a franchise now and again dose it. Only last week had a customer call I was unable to fit him in and recommend a company his reply seen there advert full page there bound to be dear too pay for it.
I use green not a bad response, green = eco friendly ???
Regarding the FT the reason why its pink is not a selling point when they started pink was cheaper than white, got to admit it stands out on the paper stand.

Hi,
Have never put such an ad in local paper. The cost would be enormous.
Have found that coloured leaflets get a better response than white.

My leaflets are pink and response hasn't been great but only just started putting them out (about 20 000 so far)
will probably go for single colour next time because of cost (half price), may be single colour will be pink.
i just placed a small ad in the free paper and have had 3 calls from it so far, delivery is on Thur/Fri so i think i will keep going with it for a while.

Yes I have heard the term 'pink flyer' used in advertising. I do'nt know what the significance of using pink paper is but there must be some reason for it.
-
I think joe polish flyer is pink and a big A3
-
Paul,
Joe Polish has a hell of a lot of flyers A3 pink is only one of them. Over the years I used to experiment with leaflets and my best ever has been A5 card, folded, printed both sides, Black print on White card. People will keep these rather than paper ones of any size. The message has, of course, to be spot on, the way its set out, too, is equally important. Most print shops have a general idea on setting out, but it needs to be more specific than that. My best leaflet evolved through 5 years of expererimentation. These card type leaflets are more of a detailed more informative business card than a flyer and cost too much to be mass distributed and are better suited to a slow drip, than an immeddiate response requirement.

i wrote a marketing package called bommer marketing, this was based on MY buliding up of my business over the last 10 yrs.I designed a full page advert for my lacal rag.I had great results from the advert grossing 10k for 1 nights insert (xmas time) to a average of approx 5k throughout the year.1 insert gave me a good boost of work for the following month. The ad was based for truckmount users.I sent a copy of the ad to a preston area based carpet cleaner who personalized the ad to suit himseld, the ad boosted his income by 1000,s.The ad may work in some areas & not others.
FULL PAGE ADS IN LOCAL PAPERS IS WORTH A TRY.
I still run the ad from time to time but the only downfall is a sudden increase of work in 1 night.

Lee.
Where do you sell your package. Is it just for The BIG BOYS who play with truckmounts.
-
Ian
BIG BOYS who are they when there at home, used the porty 4 times last week, three more booked for this week plus one LM not including the TM now that’s a BIG BOY diversity! Not into snobbery.
To be fair I know Lee coming from, the word I comes into it why give it to local competitors when they have probably already got it! ;D

I've just spent 1 month writing my next YP ad, it takes time and tinkering and testing I ask my customers what they think as well as family friends even the guy who tried to sell me water, electric and gas at the door but usually it is the bits I write in my newsletters that have been tried and tested, I usually have 7 or 8 good ideas at the begining of the year and test them out for response and the good stuff I keep and recycle for YP but I think I'm happy with it now.
Before you ask, NO!

Just taking mickle out of truck mounts because I have not got one.
You obviously use the appropriate equipment for the job.
-
so.......do local rag classified ads work then? do they pay for themselves?......if they do, and you dont wanna be over-run with work, then surely it would be more sensible to run it on a fortnightly basis, rather than a weekly affair.
-
Some times mine have paid some times not.
I feel I can get more work by using Direct Canvas methods rather than depending on people phoneing
Its the lazy way to market
-
Local Papers dot work here in cornwall as neil and myself have found out to our expense. Paul

My local paper works and the ad is only 3cm Square :o
It costs around £3k per year but brings in over 3 times that much and is in 1million copies per month.

yes lazy... but if you had a full time job already, you wouldnt feel like doing leaflet drops...if thats where youre coming from.
The question that i have been trying to get an answer for, for ages, is....is anyone in a highly populated area, only advertising in yp, and local rag...and making a good living from it...(without leaflet drops)...must be someone out there. :-/
