Post by: aztec on June 13, 2007, 11:47:53 pm
i dont want to give out too much info but i have found a solution to any building having their windows cleaned without window cleaners involved, i know as a window cleaner for many years i am putting myself out of a job but this idea is seriously going to put a lot of cradle work and abseilers out of a job! how would i go about patenting and putting my idea into practice, this idea is better than who thought of wfp!!! any help welcome (p.s thought of dragons den already!) you have been warned!!

first thing you must do, before seeing any patent officers or spending any money, is to do a basic patent search, this link is the best one
http://ep.espacenet.com/quickSearch?locale=en_EP    type in all the related keywords for the idea you have,
be prepared for a long search,

Possibly a mini sky pro?

Could be anything really.

I don't want to be a Kill Joy but what ever idea you have you can bet your bottom $ it has already been thought of & probably tried.

There are literally 1000s of patent applications put in every week & 99.9% of them never see the light of day as they either don't work well enough, are too expensive to manufacture or are just seen as having a limited market.

Not trying to put a downer on it, but don't give up your day job just yet mate!

Wish you all the best.

Just go for it, first take legal advice ( intellectual property)

Have you researched the market, ie, is it viable for use, will your target audience purchase this hands down over the current method they are using.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Not that magnetic window cleaning tool that is on ebay is it? They list like a million at a time and it really bugs me when you have to scroll past them all to find what you want!

Is that a clue?
Does it have something to do with watch and space, like wash and reach.

When you're pitching on Dragons den, don't be put off when you see someone arising at the outside window just behind Ballantyne with applicator in one hand and a stethoscope to listen at the glass in the other.
If your ideas any good I'll bang on the glass. They often make notes, and as I'll be behind them I'll try and sign what they put so pay attention.
cheers

It costs a lot of money to get an idea into production, unless your familiar with the process it might give you a shock, solicitors fees are just the start aswell as patent rights etc.If you think it will sell good luck to you, what do you think the mrs will think about remorgaging the house.

Don't show it to anyone, unless you have applied for your patent or you will never get a patent on it, if you have to show it to anyone, then here is what you must do.

Do a full drawing and explanation of your invention how it works, anything you can think of to show its your idea, add the date, go to the post office, stick it into a registered envelope and post it to your self, when it arrives on your door step DO NOT open it, and store it somewere safe, this way you have full legal proof of your invention and the date if anyone try's to nick your idea.

 Hi Aztec
Having looked at patenting the slip n slide 9k was about the figure i was quoted that would have been the uk and then Europe

on another note if you need to show anyone the idea you need to get a confidentiality agreement drawn up
Its also worth knowing that you can get a free consultation with a patent attorney usually 45mins
If you need a chat Zwizard@supanet.com

A quick question Jeff. Its sort of invention related.

I had a split relay proffesionaly done for my 85amp hour battery on my Scudo. It's got in line fuses, and they don't do it off the alternator any more. Anyway thats not my question.

I have a cheap charger from netto that I sometimes stick on overnight on the belt and braces principle. My question is should I get a better charger( maybe one that reads the state of my battery) and what sort would be best and where from?

To add to what you said above, you can not patent anything that is in the public domain( don't tell anyone), and also if the idea is so simple as to be obvious.
The cheapo battery chargers are ok for an emergency and thats all, if you leave it on overnight the chances are you are overcharging your battery.
Go to Halfords and buy a fully automatic one, around the £30 mark, you can leave this type on for a week and it will keep your battery topped upto its maximum without overgharging it.

I should have explained my self a little clearer, there are company's out there that will help you with your invention, and if you decide to use one of these company's you have to show them your invention and the registered letter gives you a little more added protection from them pinching your idea.
you are right it should not be in a public domain.
Go to Trevor Balisis web site, he is there to give all would be inventors a helping hand and is a mind of information on inventions and patenting.

Why are you helping him put us out of a job? ( don't quote me on this but I bet this idea will never get off the ground, there are alot of big window cleaners in Government!!! )

Too right Luke.
Not only government, but round by me I 've got vicars and solicitors trying to knock a round up. This invention will do for us all. Let's hope one of the big boys puts the fix in like they did with the 1p a gallon petrol.
