Policeman Dies After Stabbing
Updated: 12:40, Monday June 11, 2007
A 36-year-old policeman has died after being stabbed in Luton town centre.
It is understood he had intervened to stop a window cleaner being mugged.
Town centre sealed offPolice say a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The officer had been called to an incident outside Marks and Spencer in George Street at 7.18am today in which two other people were also stabbed.
The 36-year-old married officer, who had served three years in the force, is believed to have received a fatal wound to the shoulder.
The window cleaner, a 55-year-old Luton man, is in a serious, but stable condition in Luton and Dunstable hospital.
Police gave no details of the second man but said he was also being treated in hospital.
Witnesses said that the first victim was a window cleaner. A passer-by who came to help and then the police officer were injured in the ensuing scuffle.

-
just heard the news!cant believe it! >:(
-
To Many guns.....To many knives???.....Bring back hanging. and lets put an end to this nanny state.
He's probably on drugs so will get his wrist slapped, or we'll pay to send him on a nice holiday somwhere ::)
My Thoughts go out to all the effected family's
-
and what window cleaner has lots of cash on them at 7 in the morning? ::)
-
My sentiments as well Jeff
Their is just no deterrent any longer
The guy will probably get 6 yrs and with good behavior that will be down to four ,
and if he complete some sort of retraining and all that s t
out in 2
Wrong so bloody wrong
-
shocking
-
Agree with you guys
He will get about 10years if he is convicted and be out in about 5 years.
Kept warm with three square meals a day at taxpayers expense.
Thats after a trial at taxpayers expense
And he will get legal aid at taxpayers expense
Which will mean he will get the best barristers as it is a murder charge.
The Crown Prosecution Service who the Police have to use are a bunch of mediocre muppets who don't do a great job - so he may even get off yet!!
I am all for bringing back hanging on this type of offence.
I am getting even more cynical in my old age. >:(
-
Worrying for when you're old and frail isn't it? :-\
It should also be an offense to be at work at 7.18 in the morning though. ;D

Only moved away from luton 6 weeks ago.
Even though the town has been getting a worse place to live. I think this is the first pc killed on duty in the town.
The window cleaner i think i may have seen, if it its who i think he used to do predominantly the town centre shops early mornings, a couple of times a week.
No news yet on who the wc is. I'm visiting Luton this wk/end so may be able to find out more details if anyone interested.

Just spoke to my stepson who has taken over my round in Luton.
He was cleaning a customer and the neighbours son came out, turns out it was his uncle who was the pc.
Scary.
I've told him to be careful, not that he does the town centre, but people reading this might think wc's have bundles of cash on them.
I know i carry upto a few hundred sometimes if i haven't gone to the bank for a few days.

I know Luton town centre quite well although its about 25 miles north of where I live. I take my taxi up there to be serviced because its cheaper and better than getting it done in London. While its being done I wander round the town.
I always got the impression it was a quiet sort of place although some of the outlying fringes can be a bit rough.
Very sad and totally un necessary. I got the impression that the attack on the WC was random rather than robbery. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Whilst this is truly tragic and our sympathys go out to the family of the PC. again this highlights the dangers of going out collecting (yes I know he was cleaning at the time!) can bring about not only in our industry, but many others too! How sad and pathetic that this attacker could set about one hard working individual, just out to earn a living, be he a WC or whatever else. and then turn round and kill another and injure 2 more was it? The world is not safe and there are too many idiots around, so when the next customer says I am not using the envelope/on line banking system, I want you to collect, just refer them to this incident. Could have been anyone that was attacked and no amount of money is worth that risk.

Darren ,
Rather than carry it around for days, why not leave it safe at home. You never know who is watching when you cive change to a custy and out pop a wad of notes....be careful

Started doing that in the last few months, easy targets if people think about it.

When I was posted to Belize in Central America with the army I was always advised to keep 10 dollars in a shirt pocket and the rest hidden elsewhere so if a mugger approached me demanding money, the idea was to take out the ten dollar bill and drop it it in front of them which would give me the time to run away from the scene, or, if I was foolish:to drop the money, wait for them to bend down to pick it up, then attack.
I had two, would be muggers waive machetties at me either side of a road one night, I wasn't scared at all. I just gave them verbal abuse and kept teasing them at a few arms length only because I was absolutely drunk and wasn't really aware of the dangers at the time until I sobered up the next day and considered myself lucky!
