Title: Can you believe this
Post by: paulchambers on September 22, 2004, 05:33:51 pm
I quoted a hotel for a dinning rom carpet back in july, they have said i am 3 times higher then another quote, i said i cant match that and asked who it was they said a carpet cleaning in exeter (which is about 100 miles away)

So he's cleaning a 1160 sq ft carpet for £100 and travelling a round trip of 200 miles.   Paul

Hi

I would charge exactly what you are charging.

He is charging about 9p per Sq ft and not including travel

Scary!

If i AM honest and I wanted that job I would have matched their price.
As a little while ago a telephone shop got a similiar area done for £85 by a rival cleaner.

You have a spare day you could have earnt £100.

I know others will disagree.

and Obviously I would like £300 and pigs might fly.

£300 does sound a mite high for less than 130 sq. yds.
A lot more than I would charge, unless there is a lot of furniture to move of course.  Then it is a different matter !

I certainly wouldn't travel 200 miles though !

Paul,

Is that 40 tables & maybe 4 chairs to each ? or 40 in total ?

If the room was empty I would probably charge a maximum of £150,  -  but that of course depends on condition, but that area shouldn't take more than a couple of hours or so unless pretty bad.

Impossible to give a price for furniture moving without seeing situation.  but I would estimate time necessary, & charge it at £40 - £50 per hour or part thereof.

Not neccesarily too high Paul, if your clients are willing to pay it.

I am sure there are many c/c s on this board who would quote similiar,  but I would be happy with less.

I really don't think it would take you 4 - 5 hours, unless you like lots of tea-breaks   ;)

Paul,
Id say not too high at all for domestic, but maybe for commercial, though I know some that often charge more. What some people will do £100!!??
Dave.

Hi Paul,

Yes I can believe it. there is always someone with a Vax machine that won't be around next year. Personally if the job was straight forward and there was no chewing gum then I would have gone in at £160.00. I normally look to earn at least £30.00 per hour.

at the end of the day you know how much it costs to run your vehicle, or how much a vehicle with operatives costs if out on the road.

obviously its not worth working for a loss, therefore you make a commercial decision about whether you will do a job or not.

if the days work will cover the fixed costs then the next job may make more profit.

i tenfd to quote and then stick to the price, its all too eas for cleaints to  say that MATEY DOWN THE ROAD QUOTED A CHEAPER PRICE.

we are all trying to make a profit, therefore we need to be driving prices up for a professional service NOT DOWN, for a cheap service.

most customers appreciate VALUE for MONEY, thats totally different to CHEAP

Cheaper operators know the VALUE of their work.

I can appreciate that.

I also know the value of my work.

Cheers,

Shorty.

Hi

At the end of the day, some will pay what you ask and some won't, you can only gauge per client.

We have all had days where we have earned £150-200 per hour, sadly these days are few and far between.

If only it was everyday!

There will always be somebody cheaper.

There will always be somebody dearer.

We are in an unregulated industry with low entry barriers.

Its your choice to charge what you like. But by the same token it's up to the customer to decide who to use.

if the £100 c/c does the job and then gets a callback  is he going to return - ask your hotel that - also say would they work for that , including overheads of transport, ins and machinery .          also hotels are very good at paying 60-90 days later -  We cant always expect the client to understand our industry but a demo and a quick chat in the right ear will open their eyes - if this fails you have done nothing wrong - go back a week after and push your service as a pro - if it is all about price - just walk
