Title: painted block paving

Hi, this is my first post but a real stinker of a problem.
 I have just started in the pressure cleaning business & have been asked by a friend to try & remove the brick paint that has been painted on his block paved drive. I have told him that i dont think that cold water alone will shift the paint (13hp honda ).
Can anyone give any advise on what to use? or is he stuck with red paint or new paving. Any advise would be really appreciated.

A power washer will not get any paint off without chemicals, I think even if you manage to get it off there will always be tiny bits that will give the game away.
Nitromorse paint remover will melt odinary paint but needs to be washed off straight away so only small area at a time can be done.
If it's that Mansion red stone or step paint then nitromorse wont make a mark on it.
Personally I'd keep well away, as yiu will never get rid off all traces of paint, If the job was well done when first laid thenh you may be able to lift the old blocks off carefully and lay new ones on the sharp sand base

Hi

I do a lot of this kind of work for insurance companies... people who have had paint thrown up their house or driveway.

I don't use chemicals unless absolutely necessary and have had great success, but you are correct, a cold washer will not remove the paint.  You need to apply steam to get good results.

The only chemicals I use are a citrus based graffiti remover and if it needs a heavy hand, a product called 'ghost' which removes the shadowing left when the paint is removed.

I have attached a couple of photos as an example.

If this is not the way you want to go, then sandblasting or replacement are the only other options I'm afraid, although the former will still not necessarily remove all traces.

Thanks for the replies, i thought it was going to be a tricky one.
Going to ring him & give him the bad news. I did not fancy the job at all anyway & was only going to try it as a favour.

Would it be possible to pull the pavers individually and turn them over or is the under side not a finished surface or is it painted as well

The underide is different, no chamfer plus not finished the same
