will carpet machine remove mildew from my car upholstery thanks john

yes but as john kelly pointed out to me you will need something like prochem microsan to make sure you kill the roots. worked a treat for me!

This might not be totally relevant,
 I once asked Paul Pearce regarding mildew on a rug. he advised  do not vac until you have treated with a bacteriacide.  The spores can be spread by vacuuming and can be carried onto your next job by your machinery.
