I use heavy duty sill cloths that I got from soap national, they are about a little bigger than a flannel and work well.  I wash all my cloths together scrim microfibre and sill with no ill effect.

Iused to use those but now I use a cheaper microfibre from window cleaning warehouse. I think they are a pound each. They last for ages and have a great absorption rate.

Lee,

Have a look around markets, pound shops etc and find some decent "Terry" hand towells.  You might be better cutting them in half and getting them hemmed.  A pack of say 5 hand towells may cost you £10 ish.  Cut in half is 10 cloths.  They should last you a year or so :)

Another alternative is Bar towels..........Scrounge a few of your local ;)  But I find they don't last as long as hand towels.

I buy unbleached calico from a local fabric shop and cut it up. Anything is good enough for sills but a lot of man made fibres aren't really absorbent enough.

Never use the same cloth for detailing and wiping sills. Grains of sand from the brickwork above the sills will fall out or wash out and end up on the sill. When you wipe the sill the sand gets on your cloth. If you then wipe glass with a gritty cloth its going to scratch the glass.

I saw some good towels very cheap in Matalan.

Top tip though never take your wife when you go to buy towels from Matalan. You won't get out for another hour and you will be at least £100 down.

When that happens the towels aren't so cheap anymore.

I use a microfibre from Home and Bargain, they come in a little net with fitness written on it, they cost 99p, they are made as towles for the gym but they are amazing for window cleaning, I wet it at the start of the day and then it just soaks up excess water, removes grime and it doesn't drag dirt around, it just sticks to the cloth. I'm not joking go out and get one, they are different to anything else I have ver used. My dad is hooked on them now
