I have picked up a nursing home as a monthly clean and the manageress wants an invoice from me.Can I give her a printed invoice even though I am not vat registered?

Yes.

If you go on www.microsoftoffice.com you'll find examples of different invoices

Yes.  VAT and invoicing are totally separate issues.  I'm not VAT registered but I issue my commercial customers with invoices.
