Title: Happy Birthday to me
Post by: jeff1 on June 01, 2007, 11:33:28 am
10 years old today ;D ;D

Well not me personally, but my W/C business, Not as long as some of you Guy's I know.

But on June 1st 1997 I gave up my Job as a Alarm Engineer and became a W/C
the whole business was given to me, and I would like to think I did the 2 old guy's who gave me the business proud, they would certainly see a few changes in the business the main one being from ladders to wfp.

No!! because it's true!

How many other jobs have the potential earnings and flexibility as window cleaning?
Not many, I can assure you.

We come and go (within reason) and can take time off when we want.
If we want to earn £200 a day or £50, we can ;)

I cant imagine sitting in a office all day!!! The pay might be good but you have no life at all.

When I speak to people on a daily basis I always find that the self employed person has much more to say as they know whats going on in the area as there always out and about.

P.S no offence meant to anyone who works in a office

BRING ON THE WINDOW CLEANING!!!!

No doubt you make lots more money than me, but don't you ever feel like you've missed out on 'something' from having a 'normal' job?

When I left school at 16 years old, I thought I had the world at my feet.  Two weeks later I was in the army and bashed back down to size; and stayed there for a further 17 years; but I wouldn't swap any of my experiences for better paying window cleaning accounts.

Off at a tangent here, but most run of the mill office jobs do not pay the sort of money that cleaning services can bring in if you want it to!. Used to be an office waller myself, still am to some extent as have staff and I do all the scheduling admin etc. Even with paying staff I am now better off than working for someone else, admittedly not earning the salary I was used to before, but job was not run of the mill, but as a whole picture much better off! ;D

Well done Jeff

The years go by so quick!

I start my 24th year in December, Ian Giles has been going about the same time.

I saw Ian for the first time all them years ago in St Arvans, he had a BOAB made out of leather stuff. I rember thinking that must get in the way, and ten years later everyone has one.

It doesn't matter how many years we have been window cleaners, its thanks to the help of a lot of you guy's, that has advanced my business to what it is now, my takings have rocketed upwards since January this year, since the big change over to wfp, I still do all my shops Trad and a few bungalows here and there, but without the help of this and other forums, I would not have advanced so quickly.

So from me to all you guy's on here, a big thank you from me to you all. ;)

Happy birthday!
The thing I like about you Jeff is that you are a trier, and never make excuses. Please bear in mind that we only pass this way once, and it's not a crime to have something that you want.

The perfect window cleaning round? like a model train set, or the precision of a well oiled Swiss time peice there is always something you can add that keeps perfection just out of our reach. I would say you've come closer than most though.

To celebrate try and get some extra cleans in tomorrow ;D

The thing is, I must be one of the luckiest W/C on here?

The reason is simple, 10 years ago I was given  a massive round all the gear including the car and 3 sets of ladders plus all the unger pole's and scrims to go with it.
They also gave me a months training befor they retired.

The 2 old guy's refused to take a penny from me and gave it to me as a gift.
I wish those 2 old guy's were still around today to share in my Celebrations with me.

I would like to dedicate this post to Stan & Stuart

Just to put you on the right line about stuart and stan, they were both very happily married men, just partners in a business, and the impression I had when I worked for them for a month on my training so to speak, was they never even liked each other, but that is just my opinion and not a fact.
So the answer to your question is no :o

Hi Jeff.

Don't even bother replying to this plank.

First it sounds to me if he's abit jealous of the fact to decent guys handed over to you an excelent business that has served them well.

Secondly, where does he get the gay part from, the guys a complete plank. Just because two guys work together doesn't mean there gay.

Maybe he's gay himself but just can't admit it  ;D

Jeff is happy with how he's progressing and is only sharing his happiness with us like minded window cleaners.

Hopefully stan an stuart are still around too after only ten years of finishing.

The best wish's for the next 10 or 20 years got me thinking. What is, or what would you tell stan and stuart your plan is over the next five years?
Funnily enough I know the answer. ;D

Had you been asked 18months ago you would have said to plan and prepare for the smooth introduction of WFP without disrupting or destroying your business. This would involve spending a lot of money and you weren't entirely sure it was going to work, or that you would take to the new method of working, or that your customers would accept it.
You do have a five year plan?

Well Done Jeff, I'm sure those two old guys would have been happy, knowing that all the hard work they had put into building that round, was still being appreciated.
For me, the best thing about this job, is never having to take any more crap.
I can see Tosh's point about his life experiences, but my only regret is not starting back in window cleaning 30 years ago. If I had, I would have been able to afford to travel abroad with my first wife. She died aged 47 never having left this country.
Since I started my business, I have seen Cuba, Thailand, Cyprus, and many other countries, and of course many trips to Indonesia where I met my present wife.
You can't beat working for yourself.

I'm just a baby at four months old! Just handed my notice in on friday. I've been a well paid printer for thirty four years - what a mistake that was! Job satisfaction - nill points. Treble shifts - s h i t e ! Used to work so much overtime, saturdays, sundays, friday nights, double shifts (sixteen hours) just to keep up with the Jones's. I wish I could have seen the future a long time ago.
