has anyone got an online payment system set up, like paypal or no check.
how do you go about setting one up and how do you find, does it pay off?.
-
Hi, I have both on my site and find it really useful and we are finding more and more are starting to use it. There are easy instructions to set them up on both of there sites.
-
Yep I do online stuff via my website
Works a treat.
Just need to get a few more punters to take it onboard.
-
Whats the charge for payment?
Macc
-
i have both
paypal charged soemthing like 54p for a 10 quid payment
-
Its pence
Cheaper then going to collect it.
(Have not done that for a couple of years now)
and cheaper than Bank Fees if its to a business account.
Just set up a paypal account online if the fees worry you put the price up £1
that will cover most.

Not trying to argue, but my Abbey business account is free. I leave a slip with the details to pay into it online, or post a cheque in the envelope i provide.
I've got website and don't see the benefit of the extra cost. Give me an example of why a customers might prefer this?
-
It was out of interest, to be honest my customers are good at sending a cheque as i never go out to collect.
I think as i've always done it this way (envelope) & it works, i'll stick with it.
Thanks for replys.

With regard to the cheques, i think they are becoming a bit dated as alot of my customers say they dont use them now.
-
with nochex, do you have to have an account with them
i.e. i mean does the customer have to sign up for an account like with paypal?

nochex used to be able to take CC's without the paying person settng up a account, i dont know if its still the same though

No the customer does not need a Nochex account in order to make a payment through it.

and what charges are involved then?
-
Nochex charge 2.9% plus 20p per transaction.

When quoting a new customer I make a strong point of the payment options, it's a great selling point. I think every one of them so far has been surprised that I don’t collect, it creates an element of trust and the customers like that.
At the moment postal Chq is the favourite online banking 2nd, 3rd cash and 4th paypal. With A+L Biz account no charge for Chq's or online transfers into the account. :)

that is good, i set up a paypal account...cheers matt ;)
but this seems a lot better to me, i spoke to a customer the other day about paying online, i said you just need a paypal account and he was like oh we'll just send you a cheque
-
Paypal are crooks.
They once held over £400 of my money for 6 months for no reason! Couldn't speak to anyone on the phone about it, and all I was told via email is that there had been a security violation! Will never use them again.
Check out http://www.paypalwarning.com - They are doing it all the time.
I've never had any problems with Nochex.

does the money go into an account like paypal or straight into your account?
-
It does go into a Nochex account... But as soon as I get a payment through Nochex I transfer it to my bank acccount straight away - It then clears in my account within 2 - 3 working days.

What is your website address? I would be interested to see how you have it setup?
Andy

We just get them to send a cheque or pay into our bank account direct on line.
Works well
Some banks are going to stop issuing cheque books soon

1 of my customers told me his bank ( some bank in london ) has told him they will not issue another cheque book as its not viable to "use" cheques now, this is 1 of them posh banks aswell

no charge for withdraws over £50 but pay pal is a big rip off ( large amounts being paid in can cost loads) wife does ebay and with 2000 + feedback knows all about pay pal fees. £510 cost nearly £20

Thanks Matt,
do you also pay to transfer the money from nochex to your business account
-
its 2.9% + 20p
so £10 2.9% = 29p +20p = 49p
£20 2.9% = 58p + 20p = 78p
not being patronising, just trying to explain to ya :)

im pretty sure its free to withdraw, it allways used to be anyway, i dont know, as i spend the cash online anyways, straight from my nochex account

Thanks for the explanation.
My thoughts are that if a customer pays you by cheque and you pay bank charges (We pay 28p per cheque) then it is cheaper to have cheque payments.
We have just spent 2 months hammering home to customers to change to Standing order, approx 30% have changed to this method and its working great. We set the date of the SO to pay out 7 days from the expected week we are due, gives us time for bad weather and gives the customer time to make sure the work is completed (peace of mind really).
78p on a £20 payment is 3.9% of your Gross Income??
