Title: MICROBORE HOSE, WHICH TYPE?
Post by: geefree on May 28, 2007, 08:01:44 pm
Hi everyone.

Just a couple of quick questions regarding this hose,

I have seen the yellow and blue microbore hose from cleantech, gardiners etc... but i also have seen the clear stuff and they too advertise it as microbore, but it does not seem reinforced,

is the clear stuff we use for up the poles , microbore? too,

also i ask for microbore in aqua shops, garden centres etc and the always lead me to the clear silicone stuff that does not kink, i presume thats the stuff for up the pole,

as you can gather i have yet to set this van mount system up yet,

so a bit confused here, and if microbore is the yellow stuff, why are we restricted to buying it over the internet as i have never seen it in any shops nor do they seem to know what i am talking about.

Cheers for any help.

Gary.

If I was you I would go into your local Pirtek. Great advice and they can get every type of hose going.
Lets just say I got 100 metres of microbore much cheaper than I have seen advertised online and they fitted it to my hose reel too.

Pirtek vary the levels of discount depending upon the customer. I have dealt with my local Pirtek through another job for over 10 years on and off. The microbore  in the cleantech link is what I got. 100 metres for £40 + VAT. I think you will struggle to beat that anywhere.

Mine is beige coloured, I bought it from Varitech and its still like new after 15 months. I have little chromed brass push connectors on it and its the biz.

The reason I went to microbore was because I was having trouble with airlocks and that has been solved. With "full size" hose the water doesn't travel down the hose quick enough to push the air out.

Hi ,

i went to pirtek today, they said they never heard of it, but each branch is a franchise and stock the main pirtek range, but otherv stores may differ, he said if i could find where you got it from , he can simply order me some, but the same old story again...

nobody away from a few internet sites has ever heard of microbore... is there another name for it, is it a air hose or something, someone on here must know why its restricted to internet sites .

cheers lads.

Microbore hose is just a name that we window cleaners use to refer to hose that is smaller than 1/2" hose.

Anything could technically be referred to as microbore, if it was smaller than something else!

The microbore as sold by WFP suppliers is reinforced whereas the hose for the poles, whilst technically of a similar size to 'Microbore', is not reinforced.

Thanks Alex,

Regarding suppliers, i do understand that you are one of them and thank you for your input here, i am , or i was a little confused as to why i could not find microbore anywhere else other than the internet, i dont think its over expensive however, i simply want to be able to buy it in a store as and when i please without v.a.t and postage charges, which i feel is my choice.

But it is not really a common hose and that is why i was asking for opinions and advice, and considering the amount of window cleaners on this forum, and the percentage who have read this post, it seems clear that hardly anyone knows where to purchase , other than the internet, that being yourslves and two or three more companies, which i find extrodinary.

Thanks for your explanation of microbore and its "common" name,
but i still have not received a relative reply ,  regarding where to purchase, apart from tony, who asked for a little patience  ;) but still has not come back, ..

also, microbore can be classed as 8mm id 6mm id.... 11mm od 15 od...... so its pretty confusing,

Gary.

Hi GazzaSP8

The reason you are having difficulty finding window cleaning microbore hose (6 mm id reinforced) is that two of the country's main suppliers (Streamline and ourselves) have this hose specially made to our requirements. Airline hose (which can be bought over the counter), whilst having the same profile, is not as tough and does not last as long in window cleaning use (we know because we tried it!).
