Title: I ask the customer what do they think
Post by: david68 on May 22, 2007, 12:32:59 am
I asked my customers today about the wfping i have been doing on their house, These are the customers who never once moaned about the change over and take my saftey issue for the reasons why.

Question 1 to customers was what do you think of the system
Answer: Yes it cleans the windows but it looks messier than trad and drying time takes ages.

Question 2.....Was if another window cleaner came offering to do them trad, would you have him?
Answer.....No as you are a nice person and very helpful if needed and your job is great.

Question 3......If i was to change back to do all your homes trad, would this please you.......

Answer......90% would be over the moon and love this to happen, But do understand the reasons i am using wfp for saftey in mind.

Which either way i work i do all frames and sills (wfp & Trad).

The customers i asked the questions to are the ones who i can trust, (Some are family but most are normal customers.

I wouldn't dream of asking my customers what they think!
That has the potential to open a whole can of worms!!
Where WFP is concerned, safety wasn't top of my list of reasons for changing over, niether was the potential to earn more money.

I was on the point of jacking it all in after 20 years of window cleaning, working off ladders was becoming increasingly hard, looking at the future I knew I would not be able to afford to retire, so I needed to find a way that would allow me to well extend my working life, no way on this earth would I want to be climbing 35ft up a ladder at 65+
So for me that was my motivation for changing.

I will occasionally use the health & safety angle on a customer, I quite bluntly refuse to work off a ladder (except for a pointer ladder that is).

After 3 years of WFP there are not many jobs that I can't do a top notch job on, but I would still not invite comment from customers, I TELL THEM what is best, I DIRECT their thinking...it's safer that way!!

i totally agree with ian on this one
i would not ask the question either (mind you i don't get any complaints)

how i see it, it's my way or the highway
until wfp came along i also wondered how long i could continue to hump ladders about and climb up them as i get older.

i went wfp for h&s reasons first followed by potential earnings, although i have to admit when i first started wfp i did not realise just how much my income would increase.
without giving out my turnover (something i would not do on a forum) the results are amazing  ;)

I wouldn't ask them what they think either in case I heard too many things I didn't want to hear  :) .  I'm sure they would complain if it wasn't to their satisfaction.  The only complaint I've heard in a long time was from a customer about one particular window.  It was left open.  It opened inwards from the top.  I turned the flow right down in case I splashed their bedroom (they were out at the time).  I offered to redo it but she was fine about it.
As far as income goes, my first part year with WFP saw a slight drop in turnover.  I found it awkward to get used to and there were a lot of teething problems - not to mention all the first cleans and ditching jobs where I had to go over the top with a ladder previously.  It also took me a while to set up my own pure water supply.  I am now in my first full year of WFP (starting last October 1st).  I'm on target for about a 25% increase in turnover BUT I get about two weeks off in every six weekly cycle whereas before I worked hard all six of those weeks.  This indicates to me that the potential is there to more than double my turnover over and above the last full year I worked trad (October 1st 2004 - September 30th 2005).

If someone won't let me use WFP on their windows, I'm afraid they must find another window cleaner - simple as that !!

I started asking the customers what they thought.  Big mistake, it's knocks you down when you hear the complaints even if you've just had a row of 10 compliments.  You also end up wasting time in chat that just ends up confusing you.  I now wait for a compliment or a complaint, fortunately the compliments are more forthcoming.

Keep Mum Dave, ;)

Unless they ask, then highlight all the benefits wfp brings to the customer, tell them also once questioned , how good wfp is for conservatory roof cleaning, facia cleaning, etc.... and i always tend to say this is the future of w/c, as regards to the safety aspect,

oh and i always chuck in the privacy issue too, ie not looking in bedroom windows etc... they like that.

politely and pleasantly, they like that even more as you have found out. lol :D
