Title: Rug Fringes What's the best way to Clean

Hi everyone this is my first post so apologies for any errors
Have recently started cleaning rugs in a small worshop getting acceptable results on fringes but open to suggestions from anyone for improvements

it would depend as to weather the fringes were white or not, and if they are, id use prochems, "oxibrite" in conjunction with "fibrebuff"...its an oxidising bleach, but be very carefull with it, in that you dont come in contact with the rug itself...when mixed properly, you use the "foam only" with a sponge, to treat the fringes...hope this helps.

Hi Eddie

Best way to clean these for me is to give them a good pre-spray, give them a good brush then pre-spray again, then rinse and extract using a hand tool.

Ive never tried micro splitters (this is what Len referred to) so cant comment on these, but heard some good stories.

if non of these work, you could get a pair of sciccors, and chop them off...customer will never notice! ;D

Eddie,

Welcome to the forum.

I would advise against the use of bleaching agent on fringes since they weaken the fibres, which can lead to thinning and total loss. they also can over-whiten a fringe that is not meant to be pure white.

when using conventional chemicals, ammoniated upholstery pre-sprays (eg B108 Fabric Restorer) are effective, followed by an acidic rinse to prevent cellulostic browning.

Micro-splitters are also very effective - use a Woolsafe one and the acid rinse can be omitted.
