Dunno if anyone can help me with this- when I occasionally clean conservatory roofs, I use an Ionics "domestic" system, it's just a disposable cartridge of that resin stuff that you connect to an outside tap, and a pole of course.
The problem is, the cartridge only lasts for 2 or 3 roofs, so at 30 quid a time, they aint cheap.
The Ionics guy told me that because I'm in such a hard water area, I need an "R O" instead, and it would mean buying a van or trailer system, which I don't want to do.
So my question is, would it be possible to use an "R O" in the same way, i.e. carry it in the car, and connect it to the customers tap? And would it work out cheaper?
P.S. I don't even know what an R O is!

No.
It works with a DI because the tap water pressure pushes the water up to the glass. The pure water coming out the RO is not under any pressure so the same can't be done. You could purify water with an RO though and use a pump to get the water up to the glass.

If you got a refillable cartridge that would save a fair bit of money. Probably a higher initial outlay but much cheaper running costs.

If you are using a resin system for cleaning conservatory roofs, only use it for the final rinse!!!!
Do all the grunt work using just the hose only connected to the outside tap, otherwise you are just wasting the pure water.
you will find it will last an awful lot longer than just 2 or 3 roof's.

thanks guys, i'll look into getting a refillable one, and using tapwater to start with too, should save quite a bit of cash. Ta!

i dont use pure water on conserv roofs, personally i dont see the point. unless it was a glass roff where it would make a diff....

Don't discard your used (High TDS reading) resin in your DI container (ionics one).
Instead when you buy a new one from Ionics fit the old 'used' one before the new one so that it absorbs all the water impurities of the tap water it's connected to thus leaving your new one not having to remove so many impurities if that makes any sense to you.

I'm with LWC on this one, I would just use tapwater. I might rinse with DI if I was particularly keen but even then I don't think so.

Why don`t you clean the roof with tap water and soap, give the roof a good scrub, and then rinse with tap water, then a final rinse with pure water, I use this method and have had no complaints. Michael D

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a process that separates water from its impurities by forcing the water through a thin plastic film or "RO Module". The impurities are flushed away and the high quality water is collected.
