Title: Controling / Cut off switch on pole???
Post by: Mhall on May 15, 2007, 04:12:18 pm
Is there any products out there that enable me to either cut off the water flow or control it on the bottom of my poles. I'm hoping to save water instead of having to disconnect of hose and go back to the van to control the flow

Some kind of swtich/regulator???

I have a tap from cleantech on the end of my mini bore(just before tube for pole gets connected).

Gardiners offer it as an opition on their poles I believe.

Using a Valve to control the Water Flow is not a good idea if you
want to reduce the flow over a longer period, the Pump is cooled
thru the water flowing it, if you reduce the amount of water getting out mechanically (i.e. Valve) then the Pressure switch on the pump will be
working overtime and eventually cut out (due to overheating) at sometime it might burn itself out.
Using a Valve to stop the water flowing is fine, if you want a permanent flow
control then a remote control would be the solution but is going to be expensive as it need to control something like the Vario from a distance.
I have seen a system utilising this method in Holland, If i can find there Internet site I will Post. Terry

A simple pole flow control valve fitted to the hose on your pole will enable you to switch the water flow on and off from your pole.

This will not damage your pump but will simply activate the pressure switch, just as if you had disconnected at the end-stop connector. The pumps are designed to work in just this way.

I have one of Gardeners Flow Control Valves:

www.gardenerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/shop.html (http://www.gardenerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/shop.html)

They are 10mm Gas valves BUT supplied with inserts to enable them to be comression joined to Flexi tube.
I tried a few gas valves from plumbers merchants but to be honest the best one I ever got was from Gardeners........and cheaper ;)

In your opinion, which is the better on/off valve of the 2?
I use the freedom one but the gardiners looks more compact and I have to admit mine is a little bulky

I second that I too have tried some from PTS and there's no comparison
Get them from Gardiners

Gardiners one does the job very well.

Look after it though.
After a few weeks of being dragged along the floor mine fell apart.

But then I'd fall apart if I was dragged along the floor long enough. ;D

Make sure you hold it as you move and it'll be fine.

aaar I see

The one Ive got connects to the pole.

Maybe I will stick to my freedom valve unless someone knows how to connect the Gardiners valve to the pole.

My shut off valve on my short pole

Sorry, but forget to say its a Gardeners valve.

I have it fitted here and by sliding the pole up and down through my hands it is really easy to use like this on my short pole which I use mainly for ground floor work.

 :)

Absolutely no draw backs at all! but remember the pole is only a 12 footer and I hardly ever have it out more than 6 - 7 feet. At that range it is so easy to allow the pole to slide down thro the hands allowing a quick turn-off. Switch it back on and push the pole up again - easy, quick, efficient, economic blah blah blah

Since this version I have now re-threaded the tube thro the pole so its even more tidy than this pic' shows.

Its great to use, just wish I could use the idea on longer poles! - but I am working on an idea which is following the same principle but not sure if it will work efficiently. Time will tell!

I showed it to a large WFP oufit based some 50 miles or so from me a few months back and I am lead to believe they have modified all their shorter poles to this idea so it must be a workable system.
