Title: Disappointment
Post by: matt jones on May 15, 2007, 12:00:28 pm
Had a quote for what seemed like a nice bit of work bedroom carpet 2 seater sofa 1 armchair and 2 rugs. Was inspecting the sofa and chair and what did i find inside the cushion numbers written on the foam(zip end) which had already transfered to the underside of the fabric. The foam was abit of a nightmare to get out so left it but when i examined the other end of the fabric i could see what looked like pen showing through, so really didn't want to risk it it was on a quite delicate fabric aswell.
It is the first time i have come across these markings but i have been made aware of them, i considered maybe cleaning with just m/s and cloths but it is quite grubby and greasy on the main areas.
He then showed me the rugs which were quite large only cheap rugs polyprop woven with no pile you know the kind that distort like crazy when you try and clean them can't charge alot for these reckoned he only paid about £40 each for them. So all in all bedroom carpet (wool berber) was the only thing worth cleaning and that wasn't huge so overall abit disappointing really especially when i could do with the money. But i suppose better to walk away from something your unsure of then to end up owning it.

I hate it when that happens,

I had a secretary woman phone me to enquire for a carpet clean in their offices she said it was approx 1000sq mtrs so although it was about an 1 1/2hrs away I drove there to give a quote (thinking it would be worth it)

it turned out it was a garage converted into an office, the woman (who introduced herself as the chief secretary during the original phonecall) was secretary for her husband who was a self employed window salesman.

And the carpet was not even 10 sq mtrs, so I initially thought, ok i`ll give them a price to clean it now whilst i`m here (not a complete waste of time, and at least i`d get me petrol money back)

on closer inspection the carpet was carpet tiles and none of them were stuck down,

that was the end of that I`d spent over 3 hrs driving, built my hopes up thinking I was on to a nice little earner,

and in the end earnt nothing and spent £25 on diesel  ::) ::) ::) ::)

I was asked to attend a meeting last year at last minute to quote for a job. I sat for several hours whilst they discussed what needed doing having travelled 70 miles stayed over night and went out with the work crew the following morning early to see that needed doing, went home and priced it all up.

STILL WAITING FROM NOVEMBER..............

was three months work thats why i decided to go and spend my time and money...
COMPLETELY WASTED..!!!!

Its the way it is in this game and I have been there.
However there are also the days when you get a call to say clean a lounge and then get the rest of the house and the upholstery to clean because they liked you.

Its a strange world us cleaners are in  ;)but I would not change it  ;D

it's just one of those things i suppose i said i might consider it if he signs a disclaimer taking the liability away from me when it goes wrong but think its abit wrong getting the customer to do that and have never done it yet. I did get a quote for everything and he didn't even batter an eyelid just said when can you do it blxxxy typical, he didn't seem to bothered even though i warned him that when if i clean it he might have a lovely clean suit with lots of nice no's and words all over it.
Can't see a way around it to be honest even if i low moisture cleaned it using towels the fabric is delicate especially on the worn areas so aggitation would be minimal.
Not sure haven't ruled it out all together so might give it a go lol.
regards

Second job couldnt do as viscose suite and dirty.  Couldnt do third job as was B/wilton and had shrunk from previous cleaning and didnt have Texatherm in the van.  So came home with £105 instead of £350.

Better day tomorrow.

Hi

Two years ago I did Five (in total) demo's for a huge hotel chain, and they asked for a maintenence quote. The hotel is so vast I got lost.

Knocked their socks off with the demo's (bagged the filters for HQ) spent an age walking around quoting.

End result...

Went with another company who charged them £5 per room!
