Title: Just signed my van up (PICS)
Post by: Mhall on May 13, 2007, 06:26:12 pm
Just finished signwriting the van, went for an orange and grey theme and kept it simple.

At first i was going to do a full vehicle wrap, but thought this might be a bit overkill. I'm quite happy with the result, although i'm going to change the "Window Cleaning" text on the bottom of the doors to make it smaller, its just a bit too big.

Any comments welcome

Nice.

The branding is important, you got it right, the widow cleaning at bottom is fine, size is fine.

Looks really good I like the colours, all you need now is a set of ladders on the top. ;D

Yes very good. I've been waiting to see what you'd do. The van looked very good for what you were going to spend.

As you asked for critisism, then just for the sake of it because you are in the business,(anyone else I would just say brilliant). I think the big window clean writing should stay- your name is not more important that what you do- althought to be fair your name does imply what you do.
Your phone numbers are way too small and that was the main error along with no hint or indication of what part of the country or area you cover. Do you think one of your major benefits is 60' plus? Is the semi across the road going to read that and think crikey I've got to have him? Maybe free quotes would have been better.

Apart from the fact that i'm judging you as a pro excellent. It's best point, simplicity.

Main faults phone numbers too small, heirachy of benefits wrong, marketing opportunities missed. Apart from that okay.

Thanks VGS. I will post if I can. mine has been done since Sept last year. Need to remove office and carpet cleaning and replace with window related themnes. I did design my layout and choose print and clour styles. Pic is an old one I had one of my customers adapt it into logo form for me. I love it even if it suggests only trad. It cost me one windowe clean and a bottle of wine. (£15) ;)

The people who did mine sent a sort of template of a scudo back with everything I'd put in the original publisher brief.
You should have posted that, or it's eqiuvalent, and then you could have taken some of this on board.

I thought mine was perfect, but then my wife pointed out a couple of things. I don't like critisism, i'm a bit prickily, but the end result was better. Already you've got grey is blurry, back doors poor( you can make them out), phone nos too small etc, real benefits ommitted, phoney ones included.....

Bod,

The grey writing will not blend in! don't know how dirty you let your van get but it would have to be covered in mud to make the text not clear, its actually a very striking grey gloss vinyl.

VGS - I'm keeping the text on the doors, i'm just going to make them slightly smaller as they are just a bit big and don't look right ( looked the right size on my vehicle outline file)

as for the 60ft, no the semi next door won't think, wow, he can do mine. But all the 3 storey townhouses on my estate and estates around me might like the fact. Plus when i am cleaning commercial, it may bring work. Even if it doesn't bring work, the fact is thats one of my benefits!!

The phone numbers are the right size for the van, about 600mm long in fact. Didn't want massive big phone numbers on the side of the van, it just wouldn't look right. Even your 80year old pensioners can read it!!

The back doors are not finished yet, due to the rain! I'll post pics when its done

Oh and by the way, it didn't cost me a penny ;D ;D ;D

VGS. When you said about the grey writing etc were you referring to mine. If so no offence taken.
However the grey is actually silver with a deep blue shadow. I originally wanted it mirrored vinyl but was advised against it as it is proned to peel in the sun. The phoney ads were in relation to my Dad. He has a contract cleaning company and has had for 30 years, hjowever, I have come to realise that I could be missing out on add ons which make me bloody good money so thats why I am going to change it.

Mhall whats yer name?

Please dont take this the wrong way, I think it look good but plain.

Surely if this is your other business you know ways of making the van stand out from others.

Bod,

I've kept it simple as a way of making it stand out, plus the fact i've got a big bright orange logo on the sides and back. It will be easily recognisable as a brand.

Its the simple and bright vans that stand out. Sometimes people go overboard putting tonnes of information on, but if your looking at it in traffic or parked on the street, your not going to read it all. You need to be able to look at the van and see what it is in a few seconds without reading loads of busy text.

Make sense Mike.

I agree that some vans have sooo much writing that it looks tacky.

I'm just being pedantic, but how is listing five benefits keeping it simple and not going overboard. No ladders is not a benefit from your customers perspective, 60' isn't either and I doubt that it's true. You are probably not going to get commercial work straight off the bat.

Grey does blend in on dull days and from a distance that's just a fact, and the eighty year old who thinks your phone number is big enough is probably a relative and being kind. You have to be judged by a different standard because you are a pro. I am not going to show you mean because I know how spitefull some people can be.

Tony i thought yours was good, given what you said about your dad.

VGS - No ladders would be a benefit because it means no peering eyes, no damage to property, no dints in grass. do i need to go on???

60ft would be a benefit if your building was 60ft, commercial/blocks of apartment/offices - also true as i've got 18ft, 25ft, 35ft.... and 57ft carbon on its way shortly

And dark grey does not blend in on dull days, its dull today and its perfectly visable

The phone number is 600mm long, a uk number plate is 500mm long, and you can read them!!!

Come on, what else you got????  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well I like it.

Don't make the "Window cleaning" bit smaller.
That's the most important bit.

I see a lot of vans with things like "Pure Water System!" written as the biggest bit.
The average member of the public won't know what the hell that means.

The main thing is to advertise what you do.

Very spirited responce. Are you and Rob related?
Squeaky is right.
I mean't my comments but was being humourous-"I won't show you mine because I know how spitefull some people can be."-
Mine lists the two most important benefits, but only two, and you missed one of them completely .My phone number is dominant, as is the fact that I am a window cleaner, as is the inference and association with the area and marketing package as is the integral web address and email.
I used a humourous  branding strapline.
I have a sort of badge emblem that says free quotes.
You have the tick box bullet points I have water drops.
I had to pay £200.

Yours is good, as was your leaflet. Just read Bazzy comment, have you seen the thread he and his mate had about this ha ha ha.I defo not showing mine now!

You did a mock up of your scudo, I forget your mates name but you post things like... are you there mate
... and he comes back ... meet you tomorrow.
I came on your thread and offered to show you, I think you were going to have it signed the next day, you were just going to drive down there and tell him what you wanted, then you had second thoughts about other services such as gutter cleans etc. Your basic ideas were okay.

I'm not showing mine because firstly you'd all copy, and secondly I've noticed a tendency to ridicule at times.

Joking apart I hope this has generated some food for thought.
