How much do you normally charge for a normal 3 bedroom semi detached front and back. I could not beleive how much yous get away with charging. The normal rate up in Scotland for this is about £4.
-
me form southend,,essex..as long as it,s an average size 3 bed pad,and not to big...anything from £12 to £15,i think thats about the rate for this part of the world,,kev
-
same as cottonbud. :)

Depends upon 2 things.
1. your approach
2. providing a highly reliable and top end service.
= top end price, £15-£20 3 bed semi.
Simple.

£18-25 i normally go in with a min of £20,if they don`t want to pay that i normally pass it on.I say i can always get someone else i know to give you a quote i don`t know what his works like but he`s cheaper, that normally gets me the job.Another one is i`ll charge you £20 but i`ll do it on a 8-10 weekly basis that usually keeps us both happy.

South East,stockbroker belt.

In my area depending on the window cleaner I'd say it's between £7 and £10.
And Chepstow is one of the most expensive places in the country outside London.
Unfair isn't it? :(
How some of you can get £20 for a 10-15 minute house I'll never know. :o
-
h i all welsh window cleaner in gwent 4.50 to 5 a semi n then the buggers ar complaining .iv just filled my empty larger can .with tears thinking of u guys up country getting 10 plus

I quote my price if they say no fine though most of the time they don`t because it`s normally from recomendation, but if i was canvassing for example if i didn`t get my price i would move on and would do this until i had the amount of work i was looking for and for the prices i wanted, your work and type of work dictates how much you can earn,we should all bear this in mind when taking on new work.I never take on work just for the sake of it anymore,if i take on a really good paying job i will sometimes give a job to a newbie as it`s no loss to me and it also frees me up some time for these better jobs that come along,if we keep doing what we have always done we will get what we`ve always got.

e along
so true and yet so many people cant get their heads round it
up your prices fellas there are plenty of people who say yes to regular and reliable service

I had a job a few years ago that i did for a customer that my dad had done for years,it was only a small place but by doing it i was losing money.I had a word with her and said that i was going to have to double the price to make it worth my while, her answer was that`s fine but please try to make sure you come more often.

I don't get this area thing ??? With the exception of London and other extremes, average house prices, council tax, wages and comsumer goods prices etc are pretty much the same nationwide. There's no reason why Scottish punters should be getting away with half price window cleaning.
In answer to the question, £10 in Birmingham.
-
If I was in Chepstow I would be charging in line with the above and biulding.
Do you want to earn a living or not? We've had these disscusions before and a lot of it comes down to self perception. I don't mean charge the top prices quoted here but the average.
At the end of the film dumber and dumber, the cheerleaders bus stops and the georgeous girls say they are looking for a couple of guys to travel with them and help out (I think there is some mention of soaping them down in the shower). D and D advise that they might find someone in the next town.
As the bus pulls away D says to D "Gee, just imagine what a lucky pair of guys."
Guess who you remind of.

I think VGS has got a point. Its all to do with what your expectations are regarding prices. Once that expectation becomes a mindset its hard to break out of.
If you were bursting with work and somebody stopped you in the street and asked for a quote you didn't really want to give you would quote a lot higher than your normal price because you are confident.
I would say £14 for average 3 bed semi but I have a lot on my books for £12 and some for £10. On the other hand I know of people being charged £35.

Our pricing structure has changed several times in the past few years.
When we started there were few reliable w/c and a lot of new builds in our area so we could command almost any price we wanted. ;D
About 4 years ago there was an influx of w/c in our town and we had an undercutting problem which we had to react to other wise we would have gone under (yes it was that extreme).
More recently we have seen a restart in newbuilds and with wfp now a really great hook (H & S Issues particularly) we are again in demand and are raising our prices again.
Its not JUST about the area you live in - there are other factors to take into account too.

when i was trad, i would say £6 - £7
now im wfp and bursting with work, i say £10. if they dont wanna pay that they dont get me.

So true,
I once did a quote for this lady who was obviously well to do and lived in a 4 bed detached house. We were having a great laugh whilst she showed me around and we obviously got on. She came to us through reommendation of one of our existing customers.
Now the house was worth £15 - £20 and we would have been happy at that price. I jokingly said to my colleague, watch this, she will pass out!!
I told her "ok, you ready for this? (smiling) we are not cheap and you will get a good job, lets call it £40 ! :o
She told me "yep thats fine !!!" :o :o :o :-X
I laughed and said, "don't be silly, I was just joking! It's £20 and thats it!"
She laughed and said ok, but the thing was, she genuinely was going to pay it???
I guess it boils down to ask, you just never know. She has been a happy customer now for about 3 years.

I have a minimum charge of £10 a reckon on £1 a window as a rule of thumb.
I'm near Gatwick. I reckon I should put my prices up a bit though.
I think a lot of this area thing is about house prices and mortgage sizes. However, I feel the the biggest factor is unemployment levels. If an area has traditionally had a lot of unemployment, that usually means there is a higher number of window cleaners to properties ratio. The old law of supply and demand I think. Also, inevitably where there is higher unemployment, there will be more people fuelling the black economy and therefore able to charge a lot less. Where I live there has traditionally been low unemployment because I'm on the doorstep of an international airport (though we didn't escape unscathed in the early 90s). Lower unemployment means lower proportion of window cleaners = higher prices.

£8 in gloucester, wont get tight bugg**s around here to pay much more
-
There all tight in Glos........ ;D
-
Have some existing customer at £7 all though I am now chargeing £10+ for them.
Got a 3 bed semi with massive extension where I have to climb on the roof and enormous con at £12.50. Think I'm conning myself.
I'm in South East not to far from Southend.
Simon.
-
For a bog standard three-bed semi I'd charge somewhere in the £13-£18 range. Depends on how easy it is to get around the house etc, but definately not less than £13 for any 3 bed semi.
I also would charge extra if the customers attitude wasn't good. Usually thats about an extra £2
-
im in south birmingham i charge £1 per picture window £1.50 per bay and so on
house price normally ranges from £8 to £15
-
I actually think pricing is up to the individual/company.
It is obvious that it is a lot smarter to charge 100 customers £15 giving you £1500 , than it is do charge 200 customers £7.50 giving you the same money for double the work in effect.
I, like most ,have some domestics around £7-£8 mark and I am happy with that for the work (little) involved.
It is easy to say £10 / £15 minimum or whatever but do these companies wish to expand their business or are they just after the £'s now??
I myself have an opportunity to expand into two areas that to date I do not cover.
So what would you do put in high prices to get a few jobs in these areas
or put in average prices and gets lots of work??
My philosophy would be to hit them with good but realistic prices to get them onboard give it a year see how the business has expanded in that area and your reputation built up , then tweak the prices a little higher than normal.
In my opinion its all about what you want from your business .
For me its long term , controlled growth ,good staff and a decent living that will provide an income even when and if I ever get to retire.
I will wait to be shot down.

south wales average price with me across my customer base is £17.50 a lot of it is down to professional look and good salesmanship. many customers comment wow your the window cleaner in a shirt and tie. when i go to quote also have my window fed id card pinned to my jacket. all this justifys your price my men also have a company uniform. some have said its nice to deal with a big company.
i smile and think to myself yes all 4 of us and that includes the wife that does the paperwork. I would say that we close 3 out of 4 quotes into a regular deal but don't expect to build a window round like this over night it has taken me 5 years. and yes i did charge the old rates mentioned here for 8 years then I just got older and wiser. there is plenty of work out there it is a case of how much you value yourself. ;)

Last time i looked at buying a 4bed detached house it was worth thousands this one must be made of cardboard. LOL

Choice Clean your bit about building around overnight was spot on,if you take anything going building a round can be done quickly.People don`t believe you when you tell them it takes a few years to build a top round.
-
Russ why should you be shot down, you made perfect sence.
Choice and nwh, if you had to do it all again it wouldn't take you five years.

I think it does matter what area you work in for your price. I do 120 3 bed semi
a week in midlothian for £4 and other work in Edinburgh for £10-15. ITS only about 8 mile away. Been doing it for ten years now. If i tried to change the price by that much i think iwould get chassed.
