...not on the outside but inside.
I'm getting increasingly fed up with having to drag sofas, tables, beds etc away from windows to get at them. Not to mention removing ornaments, photos, plants etc off window sills.
How much should I reasonably be expected to shift?
-
why don't you ask the customer to make sure all moveable objects are not blocking your access when they book for insides? They might not move evertyhing, but some would be ahelp to you. A good line to use when the customer books an inside clean is "Although we are fully insured, accidents do happen, so should you have anything of personal or £££ value, please move them before we arrive"
To be honest sofas etc shouldn't be that bad to move, but yes ornaments are a pain
-
Some of the sofas I move fit snuggly into the bay and even before I can attempt to move it I have to shift the coffee table in front of it...then it's to the sofa (left) move 6" then right 6" then left 6"....and so on! Grrrr!!!
I'll take your advice and ask people to clear any obstacles at time of booking but really it shouldn't be necessary. I mean if I call out the plumber to have a look at my boiler I wouldn't expect him to clear the airing cupboard to get at it.
Oh! and kids bedrooms with all the pictures cellotaped to the windows, does one clean around the Picassos or just rip 'em off ???

But a plumber will still charge you at least 100 quid for even the simplest of jobs.
I always ask the customer to move the stuff; unless they're old/disabled and not capable. I sometimes charge more for insides; sometimes I don't, it depends on how good the account is.
-
don't you charge time and a half?
-
Always Charge more for insides. For one theres always stuff to move and secondley half the time most are full of nicotine or flys crap ;D
-
Yeah but for trad guys there's far less danger doing the in.
-
i always say, please can you move all objects away from the windows before i come
they dont mind, anyway, all remember, your doing THEM a service
-
Price for insides are the same as the out side + half,if it`s a £50 job i would charge £125,i ask them to clear the window sills at least.Once they`ve cleared a couple of sills i start while there still moving stuff,i don`t do them unless they`ve cleared the sills unless it`s an expensive item and i mean expensive your gonna end up paying out of your own pocket, have you seen the excess on your insurance policy.
-
i allways insist the insides are clear, i also charge TWICE the outsides
-
If you can get away with that pricing good luck to you NWH. Couldn't see my customers stomaching that >:(
I find the ins far quicker (even with the shifting things about) than the outs...no ladder moves.
-
I ask for window sills to be cleared and charge same as out side + 20%

Yep, I have no problems with insides.
I usually charge the same and round it up in proportion.
£7 job would be £15 in&out.
£9 job would be £20 in&out.
£13 job would be £30..and so on...
-
I always charge more for the ins at least 50% more even when I was trad. If it's a small job I'll ask them to clear access to the windows for me unless they are really old. If it's a big job then I'll just ask them to move any thing that they are concerned about.
If it's a kids room with loads of junk then I'll just cloth the window.
Simon.

Same here as they often don't even take down the curtains. On one account I even have to wash out all my tools after, because the old chap's a heavy smoker and everything ends up yellow. Windows look good though when I'm done.
-
when you quote the job for insides tell them it's double time or time & half if they clear all obstructions! this way you cant lose & it usualy makes them do the clearing. ;)

I am very reluctant to do insides these days. There are a few regulars I do but find it very much harder than doing the outside. What finally finished me off was a house I did a while back. All the rooms were so cluttered and inaccessable that it took me hours over the time I had estimated for. I thought then, who needs it?

shouldn't that be 75 quid ???
If it costs 50 to do the outsides & you say the same + half for inside that would be 50 + 25 ???
Or, are you saying in + outs at same time = 125??

£50 for the outsides, same for insides=£100 then half again of the initial outside only price=£125.Half the outside price being £25.Total therefore £125.
-
Ar, i see, yes i agree (again) same here, got to be, i find the insides always harder (fly/insect crap, nicotine etc). plus when doing ins & outs together they do have to be spot on.

To be honest Mac it dosen`t matter if it`s easy to do the insides aswell that`s what i charge.Though when doing the insides we all know it takes a bit longer as the window`s have got to be spotless.
