How do you keep yourselves motivated?
We all have different ways of doing it but just wondered how others keep themselves up to the challenge especially when you work alone!
-
Do you have wfp system.
-
Im trad at mo but just ordered my system but of late ive needed a bit of a kick up the backside!
Ive known for a while that i was gonna go wfp route so ive build packing my rounds out for the last year!
But it takes its toll and now im at breaking point, i can be flat out all day and still feel that im not getting around fast enough, which in turn can be a little demotivating!
-
i have real issues with motivation ( as some will tell you on here )
as i work to live, so when i have enough to get by on, thats it for me
i would much rather be enjoying life than working
i dont have the answer i am afraid, i find bookig up holidays for the year helps, it gives you something to work towards
-
i was on the brink of packing up...then went wfp
i now love going out, im on time, all the time, and my round is alsmot 3 times bigger than trad
;)
-
Trust me once you go WFP you will feel totally different, before i went waterfed i was in the same sort of situation as you getting fed up with being behind with work feeling knackerd dreading those awkward houses coming round, but trust me once you get into it and your up and running you wont look back and your start to think why didn`t i do this years ago.The fact that you can earn more money WFP is enough motivation for me alone but that`s just me,the main reason in my opinon you get more done WFP is because fatique takes longer to set in therefore your able to work all day or as long as you like where`s when your trad your body tells you when you`ve had enough and that`s where the old myth wcs finish at lunchtime comes in me thinks. Also it`s a completly different way of working you have to learn your round with your hose and also find out the best places to park for your particular houses etc, once you get started you`ll find your own motivation and it`ll probobly have a picture of the queens head on it.Good Luck.

then when you have become good at WFP and its all running fine, it become boring again and you are where you began :-\
-
Nice one lads its thats exactly it i have even been struggling to get out of bed lately but your comments give me confidence in what im about to do ;D !
Do any of you set daily targets of a set number of house or a set ammount of dollar you want to achieve
-
i know each day which house i need to get to to have earnt what i aim for, i do try and do a house or 2 more just for the extra few quid, its normally gone 4.30 then anyways, so its time for home
-
All my work is specified to a day. I guess that makes me different from most others on here. It works well for me though to know exactly how many houses to go.
I work with my Mrs which is enough motivation but when I worked on my own Radio 2 kept me going.
Beware the first month WFP is a Killer, you'll feel like giving up and throwing all the gear away after the first 2 weeks, however I'm on the 5th clean wfp now and it's a dream.

Hi Sherwoood, all my work is specified to a day also...so thats 2 of us...
sorry to hijack the thread

not so dude!
i find, its easier, im not tired and i earn loads more...how can that become boring? ;)
-
I feel it would never be how it was before, the jobs a lot easier now.
-
Mines planned to the day aswell!! Boredom is the killer i find. Once settled in with wfp it does get boring. I find there's two ways of motivating me, either get more business when out (extras), chat customers up for more work etc. and book holidays in for the year as mentioned , gives you something to work towards.
Simon my brother is looking for a window cleaner, he is on london rd,Rayleigh, i see you cover that area, what is your no. and i'll pass it on.
(if you want the work!)

Same for me, wfp is life changing for me. In 18 months i have not taken a day off because i could not face it. When i was trad i never worked mondays as i hated work.
My motivation is wfp ;D

I find making non work related plans that give you something to save for help motivation. Booking holidays, like Matt said, is cool.
I'm saving up to do my bike test so thats giving me something to save for and gets me out to work when I don't feel like it!! :) :)

I think we all have our ups-and-downs when it comes to getting our arses out of the door and working hard.
I find that when I have some well-paying early-morning work; stuff I've got to start early, mainly because of the traffic or 'people congestion' issues; then I always have a really good day turn-over wise.
Maybe you should start looking for some early-morning work?
-
Booked my holiday for 3 weeks in Thailand in Jan...that'll give me something to save for ;D ;D ;D
-
You've got lots to do dude, write things down, make lists, set yourself tasks.
Order your WFP get on with it, sort your system out, if you need more custy's plan how you are going to do it.
You have a vague plan and you've done the right thing by getting more work, but you can't just drift in life. You've decided to do something, get on and do it.
As you say you are in the rut now of trying to keep up with the work you've created, but that's because you haven't followed through on the other parts of your plan.
Spending or borroiwing money does take courage, but providing you are hard working it's hard to see where you can go wrong. You just need to get on with it.

This is how to keep motivated
Every day when you get up and go to clean windows make sure you realise how important and how good it feels to be able to do the job.
I have been off work now since 24th April with Pneumonia and am still at least 1-2 weeks away from going back
I have had no income for that period of time and work backlogging like you wouldn't beleive. But as i have had my customers for 4 years all are staying loyal and have told me to come back when im fit and ready.
So take note if you need to keep motivated think on that one day you might not be able to get up and even go out to work then you will find that this is the best job you can possibly imagine doing each day .
-
Nice one easy all the best with things!
-
then when you have become good at WFP and its all running fine, it become boring again and you are where you began :-\
so,so true... :(
I have to keep reminding myelf that the money I earn is paying the bills, but then that reminds me that I am no different to anyone else in the rat race and it becomes a bit demoralising to realise that even though self employed, unless we are bulding an asset base of some sort with our good earnings of today, in a few short years when older age kicks in...all we will have is good memories of good earnings and £80 pound a week of state pension... :'( :'(
I, we, you NEED to invest some of your earnings into plans that will feed you a healthy income from the age of 55/60.

My bills do that for me
-
i find that the best way is to have someone working with you i always power up myself if i know someone is coming the other way i.e will i get to the side before the other guy. it must be my competitive streak. but at 48 i can give the youngsters a run for ther ;De money still

i know that at the end of every day i will take home at least £180 on a bad day, if that isnt enough motivation then i dont know what is
-
Interesting how it all goes to wfp (which I use).
Motivation isn't just about having wfp?
Motivation is a state of mind whether trad or wfp.
£180 and that's on a bad day. Yeah. Sure. I often hear such claims. £900 plus each week. If I earnt £900 on a bad week I wouldn't be posting on this forum let alone any other. I wouldn't have time. Why would anyone earning +£900 a week be spending time on a forum?
How often does Terry Burrows, Mike Hanson (Mr Ionics) or Mike Boxhall post on this forum? They all do post occasionally from time to time and they earn over £900 a week but they don't say that fact.
Also, if I earnt £900 a week, I wouldn't be advertising the fact. I'd keep quiet and just carry on.
To me motivation is just 3 words which is 'just do it' whether getting going in the morning, leafleting or working. Say that enough times every day and you will 'just do it'. I think it's the starting that is the hardest not the carrying on.

I expect you were fairly motivated starting a new round and business Ross. Presumably that focused your mind in the right places - and how is the new round shaping up Ross?
