Title: Any Trads still out their!
Post by: Rob.Hall on May 08, 2007, 10:37:22 am
Are there any trads on this site or are you all WFPs............
If you are a trad why have you not been converted to WFP by other muckers on this site?  ;D

im trad , and have no intention of converting to wfp on houses !
i am however considering a freedom trolley or similar for my commercial work !
there does seem to be alot of wfp subjects on here , but then i guess thats our fault for for not starting enough trad subjects ( myself included )

im still 100% trad at the moment have looked at wfp but at this moment in time im quite happy doing my round the trad way. Alot of my work at present perhaps wouldnt be any easier wfp anyway but i can see the advantages of wfp  ;D im guessing most trad window cleaners dont use this forum because of all the wfp topics anyway ???

we are 50/50 tops wfp and bottoms trad.
I have to say I love trad but wfp is quicker although I will never to bottom windows with it that is just lazyness

i am mostly trad. Gave 100% wfp a go for a little while, but its quicker for me to go trad for houses. I just use wfp on my commercial and a few big leaded and georgian houses i do.
i use the shurflo backpack. Great piece of kit. dont regret buying it one bit!

100% trad, due to 95% of our work being domestic as well as the cost of converting 4 staff over to wfp and water storage issues

I'm 100% Trad, considered converting but can't justify outlay as I'm getting on in age and don't know if I'll get sufficient return on the cost.

Picked up 3 new customers today as they've sacked their W/C who has recently converted to WFP.
I asked them why, and they said the finish was always streaky and they weren't happy. Trouble is I think I know the cleaner who does them and have got to know him pretty well. He's always asking me when I'm going to change over to WFP. Difficult situation but the customers said they had already stopped him going.
There always seem to be questions on here relating to WFP, presumably as it's more of a technical/involved method of working.

im currently 100% trad but in the process of the change over its very nerve racking as ive cleaned windows trad for nigh on 15 years now.

The investment is frightening too but i think in the long run wfp will win through!

Its the safety aspect that appeals to me as i have had a few near misses in recent times and my knees give me hell. :)

100% Traditional and happy that way at the present time.
Am picking up lots of big houses being done by Wfp as customers are not happy with it.

Those houses your picking up are obviously being done by a wc that hasn`t got a clue how to use one, especially if there PVC window`s.If there old wooden frames then it`s his fault doing them WFP as from time to time those types of windows can cause problems, but any work lost through WFP if PVC is user error 9 times out of 10,i do PVC with WFP and in all honesty you could blade them allday long and never get the same results as you can with the pole it`s mustard on the PVC windows.

That's rubbish.

I use both, but you can do a more thorough job by hand.

Thank you guys for the responce. :)
I am starting out and have been interested in this forum as there seems to be some very successful and professional w/c on here.
Used to do it years ago but got side lined.
Now wish to do it part time until I can build my round up to a good income.
Want to start Trad as the start up costs are a fraction to wfp.
Have any of you done the course in Swindon and if so was it worth while?

Wait till you do one more and then see what you think, you`ll think they`ve taken the glass out.I find you get this result quicker if you spend longer on the first clean.

I tried wfp indoors and then the boss said, 'if I ever do that again she would stab me' :o ;D ;D

I trad all my shops and most bungalows.

I'd get bored if I didn't.
I love trad work, but it was knackering me doing it all the time.

wfp is just another tool in the box

trad is a brilliant way to start a low budget business,

hi Squeaky, I know you were a strong trad defender and argued with the wfp lads.I know that due to your shoulder problem you went and acquired the wfp kit and understand totally as you have to look after yourself.
But now that you have begun using wfp, and reading this comment, you seem to still believe trad is a better job now you have begun wfp and can make a direct comparison, is that right or am I getting the wrong message?

No more WFP v trad comments about which is best please!
This thread is NOT about that.
If you wish to debate it, start a new thread.

There isn't a day goes by where I don't use Trad, if you are a window cleaner you have to be able to use traditional methods.
WFP questions get asked a lot on here because there is so much to it, Membranes, Resin, Pumps, Hoses, van/trolley/backpack, brushes, jets, methods, problems and so on and so forth!

When a trad question is asked, it generally gets a lot of replies, as has been said, almost allwho now use WFP are also long  term trad window cleaners...

Right...gotta go...got a pub to WFP....and then trad the inside of it ;)

Ian

Apologies if that comment is directed at me. I did not mean to begin a trad v wfp debate, I was trying to ask Squeaky what he thought about wfp now that he had his own wfp equipment and does he think it does the kind of job that has a lot of people really pleased with it or at the minute does he think that the case for wfp is overhyped. This is what I was trying to get at but I had been drinking Stella!!!
I realise my earlier post does open up a debate issue so sorry about that. I put the question across badly.

ive been wfping a few months and have struggled but today i went to a round where i have had trouble and they came up gleaming. Im hoping the lead in period on that round is over and this will give me more confidence to introduce more work to wfp.

it does and will get much better...  if you have a problem, with a window (unlikely after 3rd clean) (i get them perfect nearly all the time 1st time now), just look at the marks and think how they have come to be there before you re-do them.

9 times out of 10 it will be a dirty drip from above.

i find the more water you use, the better and faster the job is.

oh, and i always clean the tops of the frames
