Title: death of an ro unit
Post by: bluesteve on May 06, 2007, 12:38:26 pm
so after upgrading my 100 gpd ro unit to a 200 gpd unit i noticed my resin was perishing pretty quick , so i thought it must be my old ro membrane .
i changed back to 100 gpd using the new membrane and still its perishing pretty quick  as in 0-3 ppm in about 250 litres, i ve only just purchased this resin so surely i couldnt of been sold a dodgy lot or could i ?
ive only had the ro unit a year and i ve already changed the three filters some months back , any suggestions anyone of whats gone wrong, all replys appreciated.

Did you flush the new membrane and waste the first 25l of pure before using in production mode as they are filled with a preservative before you get them

Why not measure the tds from the ro before the di to see whats happening.

Simon.

i measured the tds before the resin , with the new membrane it was 20, both together it was 30 .
so does this mean i ve been sold crap resin or a crap membrane, or both ?

That's really unusual for the ro water to be cleaner before it's gone through the di.  I've read post saying that when di resin looses it cleaning ability that it can let go so to speak.

Cleaning spot is a good company I've never had a problem, but what your saying sounds suss so maybe you have been sold a dodgy lot.  How big is the di vesssle.

sorry if i didnt explain properly, before going through the di vessel its 20 ppm with the new membrane and 30ppm with the new and the old one working  together. With the new
resin in it lasted about 250 litres before it reached 3 ppm and that was just using the new membrane.

I flushed the new membrane out before using.
Size of the di vessel 750 ml.
DI resin in sealed container when brought and i have nt
 left it open.

My mind is boggling to know whats going on, however there is another thread similiar to this one somewhere.
 cheers steve
