Ive got one of these fitted on both of my poles it can be fitted anywhere on a pole and the water is turned off instantly. It has saved me so much water i have only been using it a week i would recommend one on your pole :)

Hi Andrew :)
its very easy to fit comes with instructions you fully extend your pole and decide where you want your valve to placed on the outside of your pole. You then cut your hose and the hose you coming from your pole you feed into the bottom of the valve the part you have cut off you feed into the top of the valve. It fits on your pole with valcro but i have put mine on with cable ties which has made it solid
It saves me water everyday its surprising how much water you can loose from just moving from window to window or bending down to turn your trolley off. I have looked at many controls like this and found this is the best one but the choice is yours, other suppliers have different ones and there is also a trigger you can get. Sorry i cant send you any pics

If you use a flexible hose outside the pole, you can fold it over to stop the flow whatever height your working.
I have a ring tied to to the pole with a bit of thin bungee. If I want to turn the water off when carrying the pole round the back, I just fold the hose and slip the ring over it. The main advantage with this system if that the ring is always in the right place,
No matter what height I am cleaning. Dai

Dai we both use flexi hose, the silicon is even softer and you can press it with your thumb against the pole/put your foot on it or fold it between your finger and thumb one handed. Its the answer for some of us.
I have seen you trying to put your ring idea over so many times you must have a lot of patience. The problem is unless others get a hands on experience of how simple it is they will not change. I mean it would cost some a whole new reel of hose costing hundreds of pence etc and "if its not broken dont fix it "
So just to add to Dai's comments, try some very flexible hose and you wont need a tap on the pole in the wrong place. ever again :) ;)
Hope this helps.

I have a tap on my pole hose and do use it sometimes i just hook it to my belt.
But most of the time find it easier just to pinch the hose.
I did fix the tap to my pole once but found it got in the way.
