as a reply to a post on the buy and sell section,
i posed the question Do freephone numbers really work?
in response to a member who is selling 0800 numbers as another venture"Good lluck by the way ," this reply is in no way intended to dampen your sales.
however what i am trying to discover is ,How many cc use these numbers?
Do they work?if so how much extra buisness would you estimate they generate?
my personal feelings are that a prospective customer
would feel reassured seeing a local number, rather than the possibility of a national company often associated with free phone numbers.
am i wrong ???
perhaps a poll may be a good idea ,

Think this has been asked B4. I've had a Freephone number for about 3yrs. And yes, I think you're right, in my opinion they don't work. People will call the local number every time. But thinking about it. I wonder if the Freephone number draws them to the advert and then they call the local number. Or am I trying to justify having my Freephone number ...lol who knows.

ah yes chris
2 numbers should work i agree, but whats the point of the free phone then ?
are people really that tight they are to the price of a call,
well if they are , dont think i would really want to quote them any how ;)geoff
didnt realise been asked before sorry

By the way, I've had people say " We tried your Freephone number but there was no answer ". My number is 0800 0190 425 . But what they are dialling is 0800 190 425. People always think 0800 when in fact theres alot of 08000 numbers. Just a point to ponder on.

hi
I use a 0870 number...why should i pay for other peoples phone calls! it works....they pay a normal national rate, and i get 2.3p a minute of it!.....good old capitalism eh ;D

Hi,
Do people really worry about spending 50p on a phone call when they can afford £100 for cleaning?
Many people now have options such as BT Together where for a fixed monthly fee of about £20 all calls are free anyway.
I think 0800 numbers have had their day and that's why there are so many salesmen out there at the moment trying to sell so many!
We haven't got one and our phone rings enough.

Ive been considering an 0870 number just to give me the option of using diffrent addresses. To appear local in villages etc.
But wonder if 0870 would stop people from phoning.
0800 is a Fast Track statergy but they do not report results.
Some people appear to have diffrent telephone numbers for diffrent areas but I think the calls all go to the same phone.
Can you arrange this with BT

I am on BT Together option 3 and i try and avoid 0870 0845 numbers may be customer would do the same Paul

If you ever switch to another provider make sure you personally cancel option 3 as despite getting a letter from BT informing you that Talk will take over your telephone service from such and such a date and you cannot route through BT they will continue to charge you for Option 3.
OFFTEl says they have done nothing wrong!!"!!
I agree I hate calling 0870 numbers
