When i did it about 18 months ago, you just sent a cheque for ten ppound to the crb, think its just outside southport, although they may be regional, and a couple of weeks later you get a sheet/certificate saying -
1) that you have done nothing
2) what you have done

Sweet ;D

Im advanced crb checked costs £40 and takes upto 3 months, you will need advance check if you are undertaking work where you come into contact with children i.e. schools, nurseries etc.

You can apply initially for whats called a pova check,i think this checks for anything really serious. But yes the whole process will take about 3 mths,my wife deals with this all the time recruiting carers for the elderly.

typical red tape crap, you either have a record or not, more money for the same answer!!

I had to be crb checked because the wife is a childminder, I put it in the folder I take when I quote for domestic jobs. - I find it helps, and use it as an extra selling point. it works a treat when I quote for older people who need to trust anyone with access to their gardens. also I use it to snag posh types who think all tradesmen are only there to swipe their volvos and red setters ;D
