hi i have an Expert van, as i am still looking for a tank, which would you guys prefer for practicality, and space saving... an upright or a flat tank.

I have the Dispatch (same van)
got a 650 flat tank with a two man system
no problems with space

cheers Russ, i have a steel bulkhead and its not level in the back....it sort of bows from the top inwards... so iwas thinking i would lose space with an upright... as the top would be flush to the back but at the bottom there would be a gap behind... losing valuable space... thinks its the flat in my case..

with the flat there is still enough room for two hozereels, bucket ,etc at the back
(front as you open rear doors)
I had mine fitted as far forward as possible i.e. behind seats
Also there is still room at the sides (as you open side loading doors for buckets, tool boxes ,etc.
The other thing I did was put two bars across (side by side)
they are about 12-18 ins from the top of roof and they are perfect pole carriers

If you buy the low 400ltr tank you get a lot of water sloshing about due to the way they are baffled. You certainly will here the water. Another negative is due to the large footspace it uses you will have to refill it sooner then an upright tank.
Your best bet is 2x 250ltr upright tanks put together within a frame. The baffling of the tanks works better as there is less space for the water to slosh around. Due to the water being stored higher then a flat tank, Gravity helps the pumps work more effeciently. You can use more of the water in the tank before refilling.
Upright tank, its a no BRAINER.

could point neil, i had thought of the water not all being used evenly due to the large foot space, but as i described above i would lose spave with upright as the bulkhead is not flat.. but i totally see your point of view.

I have an 800ltr upright tank in my van. Due to the way its baffled I never here the water in the tank when I am driving around. If I go out in my sons van who as a 400ltr flat tank its like listening to the atlantic ocean crashing against the rocks. Very unnerving.

Gaz as you know I have a dispatch,my bulkhead is same ie:when the tank is flush at the top there is about 8 inch gap at bottom.However we use this as storage for our small poles,hi vis jackets etc. :)

I have a dispatch with a 400 ltr flat tank in it, it is just right for my needs, and I had not noticed any sloshing noises!

Scudo, 400 flat tank sloshes like an old bathtub.

Dispatch, 650L flat tank, metal bulkhead, a little sloshing noise but the handling of the van is perfect.

Has to be the flat tank, put a board over it then you can also use it like a shelf
