Title: candle wax

hi guys

         anyone got a good method for removing candle wax.  got a job where there is lots of it. any advice appreciated.

I'm not a stains expert like others on here but I always melt it with a hairdryer and remove most of it then finish off with chewing gum remover type solvent.

i also use gum remover(aerosol) but its time consuming and costly. anyone else got a good method

I have used many methods in the past and all have been time consuming; the one I now use is Eco spotter and the compulsory spatula.

Shaun,

As young Len wrote, Eco Spotter - no heat required.

A chewing gum perforate or similar will speed up the process, then use the spatula to transfer the 'cream' to the palm of your hand - it's never been so easy or safe.

Hi Shaun,

Rid-A-Gum is excellent on wax. Apply a few drops to the candle wax and agitate with the supplied steel brush. Problem is removed quickly with no mess or residues left behind.

The hot iron and brown paper method works well too provided you are careful not to let the iron heat too much and keep the brown paper on the move all the time. Can be difficult to get brown paper sometimes.

We will steam it with our truckmount.  This normally takes it all out for us.  

Other ways are a Delimonine based spotter.  I use Dezovall by Harvard.  A gel based works but not as quickly.

The steam iron with a paper bag is mentioned too.  We will use a damp towel when doing this instead of the bag.

Although I have not used this method for years, several other types of paper can be used, with kitchen towel underneath. I have used both cartridge paper and laser copier paper.

John, interesting, I guess the paper does'nt have to be brown ,as long as it has the capacity to absorb the melted candle wax. I have noticed lately that candle wax on carpets is becoming quite a commom problem, much more than it was some years ago. People burn candles, not for lighting purposes but to give an aroma through the room. Personally I think they are a fire hazard.

The reason for the top paper is more as a partial barrier between the sole-plate of the iron and the wax. The layers of kitchen towel beneath should do most of the absorption.

If I were to go back to the iron method I would use white blotting paper, which I still carry on the van.

The Alltec chewing gum remover is also good for candle wax. Does anybody else use this product, and if so, do you think it looks and smells like white spirit?

Hiya Len

No does not smell like that Wonderful Eco Spotter ( I tried Eco 1st time last week it the Dogs B*ll*cks aint it??), it's got a great Orange smell, good enough to make you want to drink it!!

When you drink it Len rinse it aroud your mouth a few times before you swallow it, more expensive than Meth's but you do not need as much ::) ::) ::)
