I am considering importing some goods from Merril Fox..about £1200 pounds worth...does anyone know the procedure for picking the stuff up and how much the import charges will be roughly?...there is also VAT and airport handling charges...???

You can't normally pick the stuff up from an airport, you have to go through an agent, The agent will sort out all handling charges and vat and you will pay him one invoice. Ring the airport you are getting the goods into and they will give you an agent's name.

All I would say is make sure you know the total cost first, from a previous business i know you are liable to pay a lot extra, as above use a freight forwarder who can give you an all in price, normal carriers will just turn up at your door with a demand for £x in cash and if you don't pay then the goods get returned.

Hi Steve,
You can pick up at the airport, you do not have to have an agent you can just contact customs and excise but I would strongly recommend using an agent. If your vat registered it’s a lot simpler as they have to raise a vat number for your goods which they are suppose to do within 24hrs but it took me a week to do mine and another 3 days before it was on the customs and excise computer so allow 10 days before it clears.
The charges are as follows last years: for pressure washer from America
Freight £34.28
UK customs clearance £37.00
Airline handling £28.00
Airline storage £28.00
Zero rate vat
Total £137.28
Import duties 1.7% of goods + vat
All the best
Mark
PS: If you buy from Merlin he should be able to give you the name of his agent over here.

I can give a delivered quote to the airport and the freight forwarder calls for pick up. They will also deliver for additional charges. The only thing that I do not know is VAT.
With a complete address, I can give an exact quote in US Dollar, and British Pound.
I have to know what the order would consist of, and I don't mind going back and forth to help select a package.
For spares and if there is an order for a Whirl-a-way by itself, I can send it to your door through the postal service.
The best way is to contact me at fox@merrillfoxenterprises.com
I have images readily available.
Thank you,
Merrill
